In terms of important books to read throughout this Fall of X, this one certainly doesn't top the list like X-Men does. However, until Gillen can iron out the direction and purpose of this book, I'd tread lightly. Nevertheless, the characters Gillen appears to be focusing on have the potential to spark an interesting read. Read Full Review

Kieron Gillen continues to operate at the top of his game with Immortal X-Men. This is probably my favourite X book ever behind House of X/Powers of X.

In the one hand, it was super interesting. On the other hand, I don’t enjoy it when things are written in a way that it intended we don’t understand (like why Destiny doesn’t have powers, for example).

Fun stuff continues to happen with Orchis's Hellfire baddies and the hero contingent lost in the desert. It's illustrated with bright, (mostly) clear art, and it features plenty of wry, memorable dialogue. Cause and effect drift apart as the issue progresses, though. The creators are talented enough that I trust them to come back and explain some of this issue's mysteries later--but I can't deny I feel a little frustrated at the end of this one.

I feel like I'm wondering through the desert myself trying to find a way to enjoy this series again. Guillen is skilled in his storytelling with Exodus and Xavier but it's not hooking me. I'll see what happens but Fall of X isn't doing it for me. Edit: I forgot to mention Paco Medina on art was nice and he gives Selene that beautifully menacing look.

Gillen's skill for one-liners remains unimpeachable, and Paco Medina a fine job on the art (there's a passage where I'm not sure what Xavier does, but the obscurity feels intentional?), but this comic, like its protagonists, is wandering in the desert a bit. Fall of X has made this previously flawless title feel messy and unfocused, a pile of interesting ideas that never have enough room to breathe or any clear reason to sit adjacent to one another besides that they all involve the established cast; for the moment it feels like the excitement and urgency have slipped out of this book. I really do want to like Fall of X, but even Immortal X-Men isn't making it compelling for me yet.

While I did like this issue, I also think it's definitely the weakest issue yet. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come for this title in Fall of X, but this feels a little unfocused, in my opinion. The stuff with Sebastian and Selene was interesting, but then we moved to the stuff with Hope, Exodus, Destiny, and Mother Righteous, which was solid, but nothing more. Plus, although Medina is a good artist, I'm really missing Lucas Werneck's art here. Luckily he's supposed to come back in the next issue. Moving back to the story, it does provide some intriguing ideas and concepts, and I'm interested to see what comes of Apocalypse's upcoming return, I agree with what KittyNone said in their review, in that this feels like less than the sum of its parts. Overall, while this was a solid issue by itself that is able to maintain my interest, it's also, unfortunately, a bit of a disappointment when thinking about how fantastic the rest of the series has been up to this point. more
