The writing and art balance such a large cast with varied powers, personalities and appearances wonderfully and this is a great issue that reminds us of the heyday of Age of Apocalypse and what a great team can do when given a unique opportunity in the midst of a larger crossover. Read Full Review

Overall the concept of a team being manipulated isn't new, but this comic gets the job done. Could it have used an actual series instead of a one-shot to really open up? This uses the core premise from the later Secret Avengers volumes -- brainwashed heroes doing super-sketchy spy missions -- appropriately darkened up for this AU. But it would need a lot more storytelling horsepower to get past average. The characters are ruthlessly forgettable and the art, though impressive, doesn't feel like the right style for this story. Plus, the pace is wonky, rushing through the team formation and then bogging down in way too much combat. Cap it off with an unsatisfying double character reveal and an over-grim epilogue, and you just don't have a very fun read. (Apparently the Redeemers are a little less random if you've read Mark Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme miniseries from the 80s?)

I find this issue to be neither here nor there. I don´t have anything to complain about but don´t have anything to really praise either. Art & Writing are good but not outstanding. I would even go as far and say that the mission the Savage Squadron isn't that exciting. That excitement comes through how the team works which is genuinely interesting. All in all, an enjoyable one-time read but not much else.

This was not very good, unfortunately. There are so many obvious twists and clichés in this story. It's actually astounding. I don't have much to say here, I just think this could've been done much more creatively.
