Abnett is a remarkably versatile writer. Hes doing some staggeringly intricate work for 2,000 A.D. in his Azimuth series. His work on Wilds End is hauntingly still. And with Groot, hes managed a very contemporary-feeling sort of a vintage space ranger-type story. Theres a definite momentum in a traditional tale of early Mar-Vel that could gain a whole new series if Groot does as well as it should. Read Full Review

There aren't any surprises in this final chapter; anything you could consider a "twist" is telegraphed well in advance, yet it's a satisfying finale. The creators worked hard in previous issues to make the characters and their situations compelling. They wrap things up with a continued dedication to fun storytelling. Both the words and art keep a tight grip on the reader's attention. On the nitpicky side: If the idea of the Kree following Star Trek's Prime Directive made your eyes roll, I understand. My eyes did not remain stationary at that point either.
