But Why Tho? - William Tucker
May 03, 2023Groot #1 is a wonderful and emotive book. Abnett is tapping into a piece of Marvels history that is very much under-explored. Read Full Review

May 09, 2023Groot #1 is a fun, warm-hearted opening issue to a series that promises to be a critical development to the Guardians of The Galaxy and their corner of the Marvel Universe. And, as with all things Groot, it's another example of how heroes come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes, when it comes to the words they use, less is more. Read Full Review

May 03, 2023This is a well crafted first issue that gives the reader just enough to consider it a satisfying installment while leaving them wanting to check out the next issue - if only to find out if Mar-vell is able to decipher the manifold variations of I am Groot. Also, baby Groot is still freakin adorable. Read Full Review

Geek'd Out - Nico Sprezzatura
May 03, 2023It remains to be seen how the story proceeds from here, but Abnett sets a good enough foundation that it should make for an entertaining read, and Damian Couceiros art (with Matt Milla's colors) definitely lends a feeling of retroness in Groot #1 that works with the inherent classic setting of the story. More crucially, however, Couceiro is able to deliver on what matters most in any Groot comic: selling the emotional scenes that endear everyone to the lovable tree-thing, especially in his baby Groot state originally seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. (Seriously. Theres a reason why that thing is a merchandise machine.) Read Full Review

May 05, 2023Groot #1 seems like it wants to do a lot, but in trying to do it all makes its individual parts weaker. Still a fun read, but felt like it could've been more. Solid art and beautiful colors are almost worth the price of admission on their own. Read Full Review
