FF #5

This is an incredibly entertaining issue. Not only does Fraction present us with a fun story, but he gives us a peek at interesting characters and a book chock full breathtaking art. The dynamic is fantastic and the story we see here will keep you at the edge of your seat the entire time. Unlike the story we see in FANTASTIC FOUR (also out this week), this issue meshes better with the continuity we've been seeing thus far. The continued adventures of this oddball team are a joy to read. Matt Fraction and Mike Allred are a perfect partnership and their combined skills have made FF a must read title. This issue is packed with humour as the visual gags and witty script keep you laughing throughout. But the issue also moves forward the plot and delivers excellent characterisation. FF is a series that's been gaining significant praise for delivering hit after hit, and issue #5 is a strong indicator that it will continue to do so and stay on the shelves for quite some time. Besides, what other comicbook is out there that gives us amorous Moloids, underrated heroes in the spotlight and the fan-favorite artistic style of the Allreds all in one convenient package? That said, there are a few scenes where the backgrounds disappear a bit too often and it can lead to some confusion. The store John Storm finds himself in seems strangely staged and barren. The art is very eye-pleasing to say the least; Mike Allred draws very appealing people, locations, and action scenes in his pop art style that perfectly fits the tone of the comic. The issue is all over the place, but in a good way. I didn't even mention the visit from the Atlantean children's father, or Darla trying to pick a good mask to wear with her Ms. Thing costume. There are a lot of scenes, and it can feel a little disjointed, but that's fine when the scenes are as adorable and as well-written as these. Fraction still has a very strong handle on the various characters he has in play, this issue could have just benefitted from a little more focus. Read Full Review

The fun and almost easy going nature of this book is quite refreshing with the death and destruction occurring in the Age of Ultron universe. FF pulls off light hearted in a way that has never been quite so successfully done in the current age of Marvel. It fits in a way that you wouldn't think possible and does it perfectly. FF continues to be one amazing comic. The 2 groups of characters, the Foundation Kids and the new FF, mix perfectly to deliver some of the best humor comics has seen, with some of the best art comics has seen. FF is far better than Fraction’s Fantastic Four series. Scott and Darla are easily the most well written characters in this book
