Sep 22, 2021Fantastic Four #36 is pretty much about exploring Johnny's current state since Dr. Doom's wedding. The art team does a great job illustrating the frustration and sadness Johnny is in while he's constantly on fire. Dan Slott makes the smart move to have The Thing supporting Johnny during this whole mess. It's a serviceable, cool-down issue to show where the Fantastic Four are at after everything that's happened in the past few issues. Read Full Review

Efforts to allow Johnny to flame off fail. Plus, his affliction burns (metaphorically (mostly)) his alien soul-mate Sky. It's a simple, character-driven episode, but the way different characters reflect on Johnny is engaging. What's even more engaging is the superb artwork of Nico Leon. FF always has the budget for highly-polished art, and it gets a full issue's worth here. But Mr. Leon has a formidable emotional insight that's tailor-made for an introspective issue like this.

Slott knows how to weave a narrative together, he just keeps the ball in the air too long and can't close stories out right. So yes this was a good chapter but I want to see conclusions of many threads hanging for way too long but maybe I'm asking for too much here. I normally can spot a shift in artists between pages but Leon and Sanchez fit well together here.

It was pretty solid. It had some sad parts. I wish they did mofe with Sky. Pretty entertaining read for what it is.

This is an adequate issue of Fantastic Four. It wasn't terrible and the plot was somewhat interesting. It just doesn't hit the way it should.
