In todays current media, Marvel Comics is highly criticized for its lack of proper introductions or just overall writings of diverse characters. Sam Wilson has never been one of them. His entry as Captain America was a welcome change and some even felt that he shouldn't of been removed from the mantle. However with this new start, Sam has a chance to finally be a pillar for the Marvel landscape. Falcon #1 and as a series serves as the best follow-up to the disaster that was Captain America working for HYDRA. This is not the book to sleep on if you want a story with heart to it. The whole HYDRA event didn't stick with me, but when you take the perspective of someone who is affected as a fried to Steve, of someone who is seen as stained by that association, even to his own people, a story like that may have been worth it. We couldn't get to where we are with Falcon getting back to basics without that nightmare. Read Full Review

Falcon is trying to come into his own with his own title. While there were some moments that stood out and the reveal of the villain at the end is interesting, much of the plot seemed a little mediocre. In short, it's a tense issue, with some well-crafted parts and strong art, but it leaves me worried that without the red, white and blue, Sam Wilson isn't considered top-drawer hero material by the powers-that-be at Marvel. Falcon #1 is a less-than-stellar debut. The characterization is clich and mediocre, providing no fresh or interesting insights into the lead and supporting characters. However, the action sequences are well-staged and the artwork is effective and exciting. Plus, the story ends on a high note by revealing a powerful villain who isnt overused and could drive the story to greater heights. Though I cant enthusiastically recommend this book, its only the 1st inning. Im willing to buy the next issue to see if the writer can get the bases loaded or even hit a home run. Read Full Review

This new series shows some potential as it attempts to chart a new course for Sam Wilson, but the lackluster execution makes it a tough sell for all but hardcore Falcon fans. This first issue struggles to properly balance the Marvel Universe with real-world drama, and the dialogue has a tendency to become overwrought and stilted. Incredibly engaging and great to see Falcon in the spotlight once more after Secret Empire. Also I loved the new Patriot glad to see him here.

In general, I hate most of Soule's works, but I purely loved this one. I love Sam, and I've always thought he's so much better as Flacon than. Much more himself. I also like the art very much.

I honestly liked Sam as Falcon and was a little bummed (though not surprised) that he wouldn't be keeping his position a little longer. Still this was a great first issue that keeps the political heat Spencer brought, adds a good sidekick, includes strong character work. I'm a little surprised there's not much humor given how the Boondocks was my favorite newspaper comic back in the day - but I can't complain as the tone is perfect for the book.

Falcon and his apprentice, the new Patriot, take a stab at defusing Chicago's gang problems. The plot verges on the simplistic, but as it serves primarily as a vehicle for delivering characterization and insight, the simplicity does very little to impede my enjoyment. The characterization is superb. Sam's tumultuous thoughts after Secret Empire are given the space and complexity they deserve, and Rayshaun "Patriot" Lucas *finally* clicks into place as an awesome character after some false starts in his previous appearances. Rodney Barnes turns in a super-dense script with tons to ponder, and Joshua Cassara's art is likewise jam-packed with appreciable details. It has a scratchy vitality that makes action scenes and introspective moments loo k equally great. Though it's not quite flawless, this #1 is so ambitious and overstuffed that it's just about the most appealing offering on Marvel's menu at the moment. more

Probably one of the better comics I have read in a while. It was a really great read. The tone of it is pretty serious so if you're not into that, I would stay away. The art was up my alley. Reminds me of the scratchy powerman ironfist art from last year. It fits the street level well. I'm in it for the future.

The is a lot of potential for this series. My hope is Marvel gives this book a chance to find and grow its audience. If you haven't guessed this is the book for all the Sam Wilson Captain America fans and it sets up the next chapter in Sam Wilson's story. Barnes does some solid work and giving Sam Wilson an actual place and gives the reader an idea of the scale of hero Wilson wants and should be. Sam Wilson works best as a character that can scale from street level to high level. He is at his best when reminding us about culture and the other American. Some complain about the new design but I like it and his new costume gives Sam some needed power upgrades. My biggest argument for Sam Wilson as a hero is that he needs an upgrade in abil ities. The Falcon was originally a token supporting sidekick that became a bigger hero, and if he is to survive on his own then his skill set must develop. My hope is that in the course of this series Falcon can become one of the biggest American superheroes. I love Cassara's art and Barnes does an excellent job of setting up a villain for Sam that will truly test him. Pick it up. more

Average. It seemed just an extended Sam personality recap with a sidekick and street gangs violence thrown in. Much depends on the motivation/backstory of choosing BH as the premiere foe.

I'm not sold on the art just yet. The end reveal was already spoiled for me but it still didn't make a ton of sense. Sam is doing his daytime Batman impression complete with young Ward and zip line wrapped around thugs. I'll give it another issue.

I trust it was some link with Damnation so I take the 1 to the 5 this week. I liked most of this first story. But I think that If I had try it at the time he hit the store, I would not have continued it. I find disturbing the fact for Falcon Steve lied since 10 years. We will know in another issue that he have a bad perception of this part of Steve story. But even that didn't quietly explain the 10 years mostly in Comics book or they never really age. So ten year before it like when he encounter steve. I don't really like the fact than like that Sam is friend with the new patriot. Do this story cannot really exist with the previous Patriot (A better character in my opinion) ? Cover - I find the Lenticular with iron man. Made me the ne ed to search for this issue of Iron Man ^^ 1/2 Writing - That's ok, but very dark in my point of vue. 2/3 Arts - Very good. That going well with the story. I have just a problem with the end. 2/3 Feeling - Very Dark. If I didn't brought the 5 issue. I wouldn't go further. 0/2 more

I like the mention of Fred Hampton Jr (people should read more on his story) but did Barnes even read Secret Empire and Generations, because he completely misunderstood Sam and Steve's relationship at the end of those comics.
