Domino #5 gives us more of the B-story involving Topaz and Prototype fighting Domino's gal pals Outlaw and Diamondback. The sequence allows for a few more flashbacks of Prototype's past while confiming that the pair's powers are somehow linked (and why Prototype has such a hard-on for destroying Domino's life). Domino is lucky because it's going to make it past the six-issue mark and turn into a full-blown series. Once the Killer-Instinct arc wraps up in the next issue, Domino will be getting a well-deserved Annual issue and a new arc starting in issue #7. While it hasnt been a perfect comic, the art and writing certainly make it an interesting read, and the pacing issues should hopefully sort themselves out as the series continues. Read Full Review

I get my Gail Simone fix from this and Plastic Man, both great series. The opening arc benefits from having some great villains. I loved Prototype's intro last issue of suffering for all of Domino's luck powers and the reveal that he's also critically hurt when Topaz' father is hurt left us with a good cliffhanger. Neena's crush on Shang Chi continues to be a lot fun. I didn't find the art change jarring at all, Michael Shelfer did a good job emulating David Baldeon's style although i hope David will be back soon.

Shang-Chi Yodas Domino through her fight with some ambiguous insights while her pals face off against Prototype and Topaz. I think this comic makes an ambitious leap from very basic bits of popcorn entertainment to very subtle symbolism, and while they both work, I'd have appreciated some concrete, logical storytelling in between. On the subtle symbolic side, surely it's not an accident that Domino accessing her luck power again is mirrored by Prototype experiencing misfortunes in his fight against Diamondback and Outlaw, right? I'm rolling on to the conclusion of the arc very satisfied but also hoping for a lot of clarification.
