Despite my annoyance with the price tag, this is one of the best issues of Doctor Strange Ive read in a while. With an intriguing plot, character depth, and great artwork, this comic won me over very quickly. Give it a read. Read Full Review

    Comic Watch - Steve Batley

The art of Bachalo while missed has been successfully and adequately replaced here by Nowlan (did I mention it's been a long time coming for him to be given more than the odd cover to do?) giving me the feeling things are in good hands and the way forward will be as demanding and challenging for Stephen Strange as ever before. The Doctor is most definitely in. Bring in the mischief I say. Read Full Review

    IGN - Jesse Schedeen

The issue mainly shines in the past, both because of Barber's ability to channel the grandiose tone of the Silver Age Strange comics and because these pages are illustrated by Kevin Nowlan. Nowlan's impeccably rendered art goes a long way towards justifying the cost of admission all on its own. Read Full Review

Comics: The Gathering - Michael D

The past portion of the issue is a great throw back to old school Doctor Strange and has a lot to offer to fans that are looking for that. Unfortunately, the story feels a bit like filler and asking fans to pay $5 seems a bit much. Read Full Review

Fill in issues are actually terrible, but this is very good as it is a scary story which actually gives depth to Strange while also introducing an intriguing new adversary. Great art.

Doc S and Zelma get their breakfast ruined by a magic blast from Strange's past and he has to confront a short-sighted fix he dropped on a problem many years ago. Some sterling character work and outstanding visuals elevate this one-off story into something a bit special, though the ambiguity of the ending pulls it up short of all-time greatness. Kevin Nowlan and Juan Frigeri fight a noble battle for top art honors; both the former's Mignola-esque flashbacks and the latter's present-day Bachalo-inspired work are great. Though this doesn't carry a "Legacy" banner, it turns into a very thoughtful contrast between the humble, humorous Dr. Strange Jason Aaron has built and his colder, more melodramatic characterization from the 70s & 80s.

John Barber takes a crack at the Sorcerer Supreme and I like the result. A traumatized girl from Stephen's past makes for a captivating villain.

What should have been a special 25th issue, it ended up being an absolutely average filler story. No mention of S.E. and Darkforce Bubble being done was annoying as hell and having an ax he will/should not use continues to be silly characterization. If The Haunted Girl is NOT throwaway and is revisited, ASAP, then my rating would go to 7.5.
