This issue proved that Deadpool is in good hands going into this new crossover. The last summer event left a lot to be desired in this series and this one seems to be doing something better. Not only were there high stakes in this entire issue but it also tied directly into the main event rather than being a side story that has very little to do with the actual event. If you are not at all a Deadpool fan this is actually a great issue to pick up. For one the Merc with a Mouth is as quiet as he has ever been. That tells you everything you need to know about the complexity of what Deadpool is going through. In one of the final panels of the issue there is specific poignant moment where he is contemplating his own actions and what he is doing. No words are spoken but the way Matteo Lolli displays his body language gives a lot of dimension to a character most see as nothing but a joke. Read Full Review

Man. This issue was deep. Great to see Lolli back on art. I hope this issue has repercussions in the Secret Empire series as a whole. I'd love to see Wade's wrath and heartbreak aimed at his hero who led him down a terrible path. This issue is up there in terms of fantastic next to Deadpool #20, also by Duggan and Lolli.

Wade commits the eighth deadly sin: Choosing the Wrong Side. I don't want to spoil how this plays out, though the cover is strongly suggestive. How serious are things getting? Cap asks Deadpool to can the humor on this mission, and Wade complies. Even though his faith in Cap starts off absolute - as he says, "who's ever said 'Cap is on the wrong side of this' and been right?" - he recognizes by the end of the issue that he's made some soul-mangling choices on Stevil's orders. A brilliant look at grim deeds with a powerful script and very nice art; Gerry Duggan has written exactly the sort of tricky morality riddle that a high-concept event like "Cap turns evil" makes possible.
