Deadpool #27

Issue 27s don't come around too often these days. That in itself could be reason enough to celebrate but everyone involved brings their A game to the table. This is a massive issue. Besides being a big moment in Deadpool's life, we do see some plot development happening along with an enormous number of chracters and creators returning to Deadpool's life. The remaining three-quarters of the issue are comprised of the backup tales, bringing back everyone from Joe Kelly to Gail Simone to Christopher Priest to write the Merc With a Mouth. Luckily, there's a unifying theme running throughout these tales that ensures that remain at least somewhat relevant to the larger picture. In most cases, the writers and artists deliver a story very much rooted in the style, voice, and character lineup of the projects they worked on previously. Deadpool really loves his wife, and this story of how they shared vows is a nice touch. It seemed supplemental to the infinite comic which is backwards to me, as fans of the series who missed The Gauntlet will be totally lost with, well, everything going on. The bonus material didn't feel at all throwaway filler and provided a coherent unifying narrative on Wade's marriages, or lack thereof, making this oversized issue seem like an event, and not just an excuse, which for ten bucks is a relief. If only the art on the main story were given as much care as the art in the bonus material this issue would have been a homerun for anyone fully caught up on ShikPool. Everyone else will be totally lost and confused, which is the way Wade wants you to be anyway. Read Full Review

Whilst it may not be a ground breaking piece of work, or anything truly exceptional, Deadpool #27is a nice celebration of Deadpool as a character, whilst setting up an intriguing new chapter in his life. "Deadpool" #27 brings the Infinite Comics' story "The Gauntlet" to a close while smoothly blending it into the chaos and craziness present in Deadpool's life. Agents Preston and Adsit are on hand to open opportunities for more humor, while keeping a running plot alive under the festivities and nuptials. While ten bucks is an awfully hefty price tag for a comic book, especially one with a twenty-page lead story, Marvel does pack a lot into this issue. Not every bit of it is good or entertaining, but then neither is Deadpool. There are worse (and better, more frugal) ways to spend a Hamilton, but fans of Deadpool will likely enjoy these eighty pages of inappropriate humor, visual gags and adventure. Read Full Review

If you are willing to drop ten bucks on a comic book about Deadpool then you probably will like this issue. If you are a fan of the character and loved some of the character's creators over the years then this book is probably a dream come true. To me, it's a little bit too much Deadpool, but I was still entertained for a good stretch of time. At the very least, pick this up off the shelf and look at the cover for a while. Read Full Review

Overall, while the art was good, the story itself wasn't. Another case of false advertising from Marvel. This is hardly “The Most Important Issue #27 In The History of Comics”. In fact, I'd say that this is “The Most Underwhelming Issue #27 In The History of Comics”. Read Full Review

This was very disappointing for me as this series is normal very entertaining and brings fresh ideas. I found myself forcing through the issue but could not enjoy anything about it, the changing artwork in the short stories helped the issue but the story was not what I hope it was going to be and what I felt it should of been. This could of been something much more entertaining and used some good comedy but just didn't deliver at all in the end. Read Full Review
