Deadpool #4 is a terrible comic filled with terrible dialog, nonsensical jokes, a paper-thin plot, and character moments that don't make sense for the characters in question. At least the art is good, so that's something. Read Full Review

I honestly don't know why I started picking this series up. I find my patience with Deadpool running short when he's written by anyone less than say, Kelly, Nicieza or Simone, and Alyssa Wong has never been a writer I'd rate so highly. But whatever whim it was that brought me here, it was a good one because this series is all sorts of fun! This is in no small part thanks to Valentine, who's a wonderful foil for Deadpool: grounded, hyper-competent, and both cute and evil in a way that's a delightful mix of anime-style romantic interest and ambiguously malicious supervillain, which is just the right tone for Wade. I don't know if I could disambiguate Martin Coccolo from any number of other realistic-style artists working for the Big Two these days, but that style is ubiquitous because it's a perfectly good style, and he deploys it well enough. more

Have you ever read Duggan's run on Deadpool? I know you're mixed on Duggan, but I would say his Deadpool is *the* definitive run on the character, and as interesting as Deadpool has ever been. Really played into the Sad Clown angle of the character.

I haven't, but I had been idly curious about it! Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to check it out sometime when I'm in a Deadpool mood. My Deadpool has always been the Kelly era, so "sad clown" is exactly my vibe for that character

I do think Kelly's run is right up there with Duggan's. It really feels like Marvel has been lost on what to do with the character post-Duggan, it really did feel like the peak.

The plot's a bit of a hot mess, but the humor's solid, the art is gorgeous, and the pace is impeccable. Plus, the mysterious Valentine Vuong is well on their way to "breakout character" status.

Much like the rest of this run, this was a lot of fun. Wong's scripts for Wade are hilarious, and I think she does great capturing his character. Plus, she makes all of the other characters enjoyable as well. I hope we get some more development with Valentine, as she's an intriguing character and there's a hint here that there's more than meets the eye. Coccolo's art was solid here as well. Overall, a fun issue in a really good run so far.
