The artists of Dazzler #2 continue to impress with their bright and vibrant colors contrasting Dazzler's white and silver aesthetic. The whole scene with Dazzler and her performance that was attacked was gorgeous to look at and kept me wanting to stay on the page. The creative team makes the comic run feel like a teenage pop star's dream and it's pitch perfect for the story and tone. Read Full Review

Dazzler #2 definitely ups the stakes and fear and hated quotient. My one qualm with the book is that the art is a little too Marvel house style, but Loureiro does turn in some gorgeous fits for Alison Blaire and company, especially a secret guest star. Read Full Review

Good, quality superhero storytelling that makes great use of Dazzler's unique place in the world of superhero comics. Read Full Review

Dazzler #2 is a significant improvement over issue #1, mainly for being significantly less tone-deaf and offensive. Jason Loo's script sets up a mildly interesting mystery, and Rafael Loureiro's art looks great. Dazzler #2 won't be anyone's pick of the week, but it should earn an award for most improved. Issue 2 is fantastic! The story moves forward and a lot happened here. I loved Ali responding to the talk show host; she was perfectly measured after her hysterical expression. I loved her NO when he asked if a song would be for a show host. Ha! The art improved over issue 1! The expressions and action looked incredible. The nod to Dazzler's sound tracking/strong hearing was perfect. The twist about the telepath mutant being threatoned was heartbreaking (and on theme), and Lila coming to save the day yes! Domino and Strong Guy got to shine as well. There may be a misprint using the Angel song again at the end instead of the issue 2 Beast song? Ali has a doctor boyfriend!

Is it a masterpiece of literature? No. It is an on-brand fun Dazzler book? Hells yeah!

You know what you're getting into with a spin-off book of an non-regular X-Men character like Dazzler, and with those expectations this book is perfectly up to par. Would I like a deeper dive into the character, a more serious creative team, and a greater emphasis on developing and highlighting Dazzler within the X-Men environment? Absolutely. But I'm happy enough getting a book with her, Strong Guy and Domino.

This is a perfectly serviceable book, but not one that has as much actual substance as I think it could, unfortunately. There's the typical homophobia/racism/etc. metaphors and allegories and whatnot, but it wasn't anything we haven't seen before. However, one of my biggest issues with this issue and the last is the dialogue. A lot of his feels a bit generic, in my opinion. Loureiro's art continues to be, perhaps, the strongest aspect of this series.
