After essentially stalling for several issues, we finally get some answers. While some were choreographed from the start, at least we get an explanation that makes plausible, comic book sense. Its good to see whats essentially a greatest hits reunion of Caps friends, and even though it seems well be going back to the well for The Red Skull (next to the Joker, one of the most overused arch-villains in comics), it will be nice to see Cap acting heroically again. Overall, this issue did a lot to progress the story and explain things, and in that regard, I enjoyed it. But I don't like the retcon with Peggy. I don't know why they keep going back to their relationship, every time they do, they make it worse. Leave it be, Marvel.

Daughters of Liberty was actually kinda badass with that Harriot Tubman cameo. I really like the Red Skull concept Coates has going but other than that I could care less for his way of storytelling and find this series seriously lacking in reasons why we should care. The real blow to this arc has been how random Masters is as an artist, his art is wildly inconsistent and never worth a second look. One of the better issues in this slow, dragging arc but still meh...

Are we supposed to care about all this? Theres a lot going on but nothing is really grabbing me. Some issues are good but overall this run has been pretty sub par.

Some nonsense about Sharon Carter’s soul being stolen. But at least is readable, Agatha Harkness shows up and the Daughters of Liberty concept is mildly interesting. The overall plot arc is still terrible, with Steve on the run

I don't mind Marvel's new emphasis on strong female characters (for example, I am loving the most recent Captain Marvel, Black Cat, Valkyrie, Jessica Jones and Star runs) but it just has not worked in this Cap run. It hasn't been nuanced, it is forced, and it has all the subtly of a Dan Brown novel. Also, as opposed to the female-led series mentioned above, Coates has attempted to strengthen his female characters in part by weakening Cap. Its a neat trick but unnecessary especially when dealing with a character as morally, ethically and internally strong as Cap/Steven Rogers.

This time around, the Grand Coates Summary™ falls pretty damn flat. Why? Because it's a grab-bag of plot points that were handed to the readers ages ago. Now, they're handed to Cap one after the other, like it's his damn birthday. He might as well have napped through the past 6 issues. Oh, plus, the visuals are a giant bag of nothing special. Also, revisiting a key resurrection 6 months on and explaining it only with "What I will say is that I was needed. And so I came back." is sum bull☠️☠️☠️☠️.
