This issue may sport the best work from Alan Davis so far. Davis really nails the extended fight between Sharon and Machinesmith, with plenty of dynamic motion and some amusing robot designs. And as always, his character work is every bit as refined as his action. This arc may have been slightly underwhelming at first, but it's definitely picking up as the conclusion draws near. For me, the Sharon/Machinesmith battle stole the show here, plain and simple. The other stuff(with Cap and Iron Man, and with Falcon) was good, but I've always been a big fan of Machinesmith, and like Sharon, so their battle made this issue for me. Read Full Review

The biggest problem with this issue is that it keeps EVERYONE in the dark too much, with Cap, Tony Stark, The Falcon, Sharon and the reader all flailing to figure out what's going on with the plot. It's a gorgeously drawn issue, but there just wasn't enough meat to it justify $2.99, much less the $3.99 that Marvel inexplicably charges for this book, among others. Captain America #9 suffers from a bad case of "middle chapter" syndrome, but gets by on its charm and good looking art, earning 3.5 out of 5 stars overall. If I have one big complaint about issue #9 it's that the art by Alan Davis isn't as consistent as I'd like. Although the closeups look good, many of the other panels look rushed – especially the faces of the characters in some of the action shots. Here's hoping this is just a one-time problem. Solid issue with by far the highlight being Machinesmith trying to fight Sharon and Sharon revealing she has the upper hand, mentioning the self destruct sequence of the jet and the lock down on EMP that will go off of Machinesmith attempts to escape. Davis’ art is growing on me
