You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff
Jun 22, 2023The series draws to a close. Its been fun. Lore and company have done a good job of telling an interesting story. It makes a pretty good case for further adventures with Brielle. Brielle DOES come across as the type of character who could carry her own ongoing series. She hasnt quite been dropped into the heart of the bewildering mess that is the totality of the Marvel Universe, so there are a lot of different directions she could be taken in if the right creative team decided to sponsor her. Jun 21, 2023Bloodline: Daughter of Blade #5 ends as well as it could for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer knockoff with awkward character work, truly awful dialog, and YA-grade art that doesn't fit the characters or situation. The plot threads are wrapped up neatly with a happy ending, but the quality of this mini-series never managed to achieve minimum Marvel standards. Read Full Review

Bloodline Daughter of Blade #5 So I am sad to see this mini series come to an end. It was a good well told story with great art. I also hope they continue Bri story at some point either an ongoing or another miniseries. Let's face it guys we need more Blade in our life. So in this issue we get the resolution. Bri mom shows up and they inform her friends what is going on and Bri friends agree to take her mom to the hospital while she stays to fight with Whitney and then go to save Blade. The final showdown shows hat Frost has no loyalty as he throws a knife at his adopted daughter and turns to Blade. At this point Bri goes to town and gets called too weak to finish the job and kill him. Blade steps over and says she is not weak and s more

This was a fun, Buffy-esque miniseries. If you liked that show, especially its earlier years, you will find something to like in this.

The storytelling is certainly improvable. Both the words and the art could hit harder and be more precise. But one thing is already clear enough: This is a promising character, and the creators are passionately committed to showing readers why. Brielle's evolved over the course of the series, gaining insight into her own character and building meaningful relationships. The plot has been a useful engine for driving those relationships forward, and it wraps up here in a pretty satisfying way. This miniseries is far from perfect. But it's got enough fire to justify its existence--and maybe even another look at Brielle in the future.
