As always, Dave Marquez and the colorist, Erick Arciniega, craft clean and beautifully vibrant pages. Once again the mix of red hellfire and cold blue prison walls makes for amazing juxtaposition. The pairing of Aaron and Marquez has achieved pleasant alchemy with this issue. The Avengers have tried to go in the direction of the demonic and supernatural in the past without quite managing anything anywhere near as impressive as theyve accomplished on a more cosmic level, but with Aaron and Marquez crafting the story, they fit right into the action horror superheroing. With Robbie Reyes stuck in Hell, the Ghost Rider is wreaking havoc on Earth. The combined might of the Avengers is barely enough to beat the beast. The Winter Guard returns, but still hasn't learned that having a vampire prisoner may not be the best idea. I am still interested in the Vampire Civil War, but I need more Avengers in their own book. They are side players here and even when they are on the page, they are just there to make some noise and not much else. I loved the art, but overall, this issue is middle of the road fare. Read Full Review

Still really into this. I don't mind that Carol was able to withstand a penance stare, it has never been consistent and it was a cool moment for her. Red Widow really is as ruthless as they say she is, too. Also, the Johnny Blaze reveal didn't really feel like a reveal. I mean, I guess no one read Damnation, but still it was pretty obvious.

Great arc that’s underway and each issue makes me want to read the one that follows. Art is masterful as well. That said, I had to dock points for the bs move that is Carol Danvers withstanding a penance stare and declaring herself “more than a mortal”. We get it, she has a movie out, she’s still far from being powerful enough to pull that off or hardly what in the scale they claim she is. Props for showing the ruthlessness of the Red Widow and actually making Dracula compelling.

Vampire Civil War and Avengers 16 is basically all generic looking action and the worst part is the Avengers themselves seem like supporting characters. The villains are boring and the art is mediocre. Boring storyline but horrible execution by Aaron for not giving the Avengers enough panel time in their own book. There are some high points though, like the Winter Guard and Blade on the Avengers

This series has been a mess since Issue 1, but this issue really takes the cake. The Avengers are almost bit characters in their own series. We keep bouncing all over between entire teams we know nothing about while everyone talks in vague dramatic patterns. There's no character work or development; its the comic equivalent to smashing action figures together. Blade has been a completely worthless addition to the cast. He's done nothing and accomplished nothing. Its 3 issues into the Vampire Civil war that came out of nowhere and we still no nothing about it. The villain group has gotten named but no personality, and can apparently go toe-to-toe with the Avengers, but mostly off panel. The worst of it is how it mangles Robbie Re yes. Robbie is my favorite Marvel character, and its clear the author did absolutely no research into him before using him. His powers don't work this way, he's not possessed by the Spirit of Vengeance or 'the Rider', which the writer seems to have made up whole cloth. He didn't have a Jekyll and Hyde thing going on like this issue seems to imply, and he's already MET Johnny Blaze and gotten along with him, so the end of the issue makes even less sense! more
