Avengers #687 relies on recharging, checking in, and adjusting. Janet Van Dyne steps up and reminds readers why she is one of the most beloved Avengers and just how confident a character she is. Her conversation with Voyager makes sense, feels right, and gives readers a chance to look at this wide assemblage of costumed characters as a real team once again. With the pause in fisticuffs and explosions, Avengers #687 feels like a huge gasp before the final sprint in the No Surrender marathon. The finish line is in sight. Now its time to really pour it on. Another solid chapter of an event that has delivered again and again. We're moving towards that end game and it should be any moment before all of the Avengers come together to fight the bad guy. Avengers #687 was another great issue where the character writing stood out more than anything else. An event story never has to be one big action to the next. The story is worthwhile when every action has a response and reaction such as what these heroes and Voyager did. Having a moment to sort trough your feelings never hurts in the longrun. In a collection this might be more entertaining, but looked at on its own, this issue of exposition reveals information that the reader already knows. Unless something is teased that becomes a major plot point in later issues, this could be skipped and not much missed. Read Full Review

Its all executed well enough, and in the grand scheme of things, this breather of an issue is necessary to reset the board for the final act of "No Surrender", but it's also not the most memorable chapter of the saga. Read Full Review

There is a break in the chaos here to explore what it is to be an Avenger. Banner is sulking about how he is not an Avenger because he is a cursed monster when Jarvis gives him some words of encouragement. He reminds him that it is not the fails and mistakes that made him an Avenger, but the ways he atones for it. This could be a hint at Voyager's future now that they have discovered she lied. If she could help save the world that could change the members minds on her. Many of the members were introduced as villains at one point after all. We also get Wonder Man talking to Living Lightning about how power is not what makes an Avenger before reminding him of Hawkeye's abilities. It is an interesting look back at the past of the Avengers and what makes up its members in an interesting way. There is not much here in terms of reveals and action, but again I think the weekly format makes that easier to tolerate. The art uses the page space well. There are no excessive panels to take up space. There are a few panels that are memorable. The cliffhanger hints at more action to come so the next issue should be interesting. more

The Voyager mystery was a lot of fun and I was hoping she would be Valeria Richards so the Richards family could be alive and come home but at least she wasn’t Kobik. That would’ve been stupid.

Welcome to the Oblivion Bar where the first round is on me and the pretzels are free! Be warned: like the pickled eggs at the bar, this issue is going to get SPOILED rotten. This week’s No Surrender is a catch up issue on what’s been going on up to this point. Honestly, since it’s been coming out weekly, it really wasn’t needed. It wasn’t bad... it just wasn’t needed since it’s been weekly. We get a nice insight with Jarvis and the Hulk with a great quote from Paradise Lost.... GREAT QUOTE. It fits the Hulk and honestly life perfectly. The Avengers ask Voyager for help and it appears as though Challenger killed the Grandmaster... “appears”.. and now Challenger has taken Earth hostage and is going to destroy it hi mself. Again, the issue did a much better job of explaining what has been going on throughout the story so far, how Voyager manipulated the Avengers, and a little history of the Grandmaster and the Elders. This issue wasn’t bad it just wasn’t as good as the rest. That said; it was still pretty good with some pretty darn good art. I will certainly continue through No Surrender! This breather episode delivers many variations on the theme of "what does it mean to be an Avenger?" At its finest, that means Jarvis hauling Bruce Banner out of the depths of depression with Milton quotes and heartfelt admiration. At its weakest, the "breather" part gives Voyager an excuse to recap her now-clear origins in excruciating detail. This issue teeters on the knife-edge of over-indulgence; the next one NEEDS to deliver significant forward plot motion. Still-solid visuals are a strong point in favor of the book's overall quality, though.

This issue of "The Avengers" slows the pace to allow the players in this story to regroup, and for the writers to explore themes of redemption and...well, forgiveness? There's a nice talk with Jarvis and Bruce Banner in which Jarvis challenges Bruce's ideas on himself, and we gather for the final push. 3 issues left!

Mostly an exposition issue. The art by Paco Medina and colours by Juan Vlasco are good. I pretty much enjoyed the Jarvis and Bruce Banner bits. Overall, a decent issue.

Voyager isn't that interesting character. Nor are the Challenger and the Grandmaster compelling villains... But thanks to Bruce and Jarvis, this issue is enjoyable enough.

Decent art and an interesting conversation between Jarvis and Bruce Banner. But the whole issue is all boring conversation. And I hate that any credibility is given to Hawkeye's "killing" of the Hulk in CW2. I really hope this era is forgotten quickly.

Did they f....g Joke. What was that ? A issue about poor Voyager telling once more her bowering story. At least we have a good conversation between Banner & Alfred (Their is just me surprised to see him so well so quickly ?) The lighting Wonder Man one just prove how wrong their are to put Miguel in all that just for what he did until now. This story is the worst exit for three ongoing I licked really much. I really offended. I'm piss off ! Cover - Yeah at lest I understand what the artist want to tell. And even if that can be related to Wasp story. I will not grant it the fact that is link to what I read inside. 1/2 Story - Three Writer for that ? I don't want trust that fact. 1/3 Arts - At lest the art are great. 3/3 Feeling - I just wait the end without pleasure at all. No thanks for that. 0/2 more
