Aside from a minor typo, and a little bit of sameface (Nadia and Voyager have very similar hairstyles and noses) Avengers #684 is a nice, Hulk-sized issue that gives No Surrender a supercharge to head towards the finish line. Im not sure whats going to happen in the next few issues, but with an unchecked Hulk, a few too many Avengers, and a pair of cosmic-level manipulators both averse to losing, anything seems possible. This story is a blast and so much fun. I never know what to expect each week. My only fear thus far is when the story ends, the ride will be over. The Hulk hasn't been this interesting or scary since "Planet Hulk" and "World War Hulk." But when this story does reach its conclusion. Waid, Zub, Ewing, and everyone involved deserves to take a bow. The Incredible Hulk is back and everyone better get out of his way! The opening ten pages create much sympathy for Banner, but the visuals are lackluster. Much better are the final two-thirds of the book where the Hulk is set on a task and the Avengers are in his way. The story is good and the art is excellent. A mixed bag, but one worth checking out. Bruce Banner is not home, and neither was Voyager ever. Just when things were looking up for the Avengers, the game gets flipped right on its head through two agents of chaos. With the events of Avengers #684, the dial has been cranked to 11 when the Avengers really need to start asking themselves how badly they want to win this game or save the world, because someone may not walk away from this in one piece. Another great issue from this story arc and all the build up to this series is starting to pay off as the newest character, Voyager, is coming into her own and the addition of the Hulk is a great move, since it delivers a much more simpler focus. Read Full Review

Avengers: No Surrender has been absolutely dynamite so far. It has exceeded expectations and proved that Marvel is back on track. The 616 is full of life again, with both old and new characters leading the way. Marvel may want to consider another weekly series after this one concludes. Read Full Review

The issue is the first bump in the event, but it's still an entertaining one. The creative team give us a break to catch up readers as to the Hulk's history while also setting him upon his destructive path. Ultimately, the draw of this issue is the return of the Hulk, and as a vehicle for that, Avengers #684 serves its purpose. Avengers #684 confirms what a lot of my assumptions about No Surrender were. Its bloated, confusing, and unwieldy. While its not miserable, the dense plotting thats gone into it is ludicrously unforgiving. The art team brings their A-game to at least leave it visually appealing, and the Hulk is back at least. I cant recommend it on the business model alone, but, as its own issue, its mediocre at the best of times. If youre already on for this ride, youre probably going to stick it out anyway. Ewing writes Hulk like no other writer can. He is truly terrifying this issue and if your spine didn’t shiver once this issue then you are fearless. Marvel Legacy has been pretty bad but Avengers: No Surrender may be the best part about it

Great reintroduction to the Hulk, made him look rather stronk. Voyager looks to be a more interesting character now the reveal. excited to see how this develops.

First you have to know you will be paying more for this issue because it is a little longer than the standard issues in this event. You basically get two issues here. A rundown on Hulk and why he is now being called immortal in one. A background on the real Voyager in the other. The Voyager piece was a pretty interesting twist that adds a lot to the future issue of the arc. The Hulk return felt more deserved and natural then the Logan return, but I am still unsure how excited I am about it. The preparation of the Avengers to take on the Hulk and the initial attack was thrilling. The art was not the best that I have seen in No Surrender but it was close enough. If you can get over the higher price tag would check it out.

Welcome to the Oblivion Bar where the first round is on me and the pretzels are free! Be warned: like the pickled eggs at the bar, this issue is going to get SPOILED rotten. What we find out is that you cannot kill the Hulk. He’s been “dead” numerous times before but he always comes back. Arrows made special to kill him, decapitation, viruses or disease, heck he’s even in the future with Thanos as a dog. He is truly immortal. Hulk is a force of nature truly. And he will always be around. He may be missing or misplaced; he may be quiet or calm; but he is always there. It looks like the Immortal Hulk is back and the Challenger has him on his team. The Grandmaster better watch out because even his Voysger tricks aren’t goi ng to stop him. This Hulk looks TOUGH... maybe not world breaker tough but still pretty tough. And the iron Hulk looks pretty Awesome too! These issues have been pretty dang good for a weekly comic especially the art. I dropped off "The Avengers" before "No Surrender" started, but have noticed the positive buzz this storyline has been getting. What drew me back, though, was the re-emergence of Banner Hulk, in the form of "The Immortal Hulk." And this issue is pretty fun! It's a testament to the creative team that this is so accessible to new readers despite being the 10th part of a 16 issue arc. I settled in and enjoyed the spectacle. This read like an old school 70s comic to me, and I mean that in the best way. The story is kind of wacky and high stakes and just goes for it. I don't know if I'm gonna go back to read parts 1-9, but I'm going to pick up the next issue anyway. Good stuff.

All of the Hulk and Voyager foreshadowing is paid off. The former attacks the Avengers quite forcefully and we finally learn What The Deal Is with the latter. The art is great - I had no idea how nicely Joe Bennett & Paco Medina would complement each other - and the plot developments are solid. The pace is a little slow and the extra pages are shamelessly used to hype the Hulk's next series, but the work succeeds at entertaining in its own right and in building anticipation.

The first part focuses on the Hulk, which was probably written by Al Ewing. I really liked that one. Hulk for me has one of the best character ressurection. The art for this part was also great and is done by Joe Bennett. The second part was ok. Not sure who wrote it but the writing style was certainly different from the Hulk part. The art by Paco Medina in this part was above average. The character reveal for Voyager didnt suprise me as i already got that bit spoiled for me. There was also a decision Voyager makes in this issue which i felt like it was rushed and should have been given its own time to play out. Also, the way the Red Hulk is written is super annoying to me. Overall, not a bad issue.

I just picked up this issue because of the Hulk stuff, but I did find the rest of the story to be decent too. From what I know of the story, the "game" did not seem to progress very far in this issue. I'm really not a fan of the Paco Medina art here. It's hard to explain in words, but I find his characters sometimes are disconnected from the environment. There is always this thick black border around them that comes off looking like coloring book characters that throws me off. The Hulk return story was a little clunky and shoehorned in, but I'll take it for what it is.

Hulk story ... I feared a Transitional issue all about that with Hulk showing at the end. But fortunately they didn't just talk about it. So what we have with the Hulk background ? The real identity of Voyager & her capacity. And am I the only one to find it dumb ? We also have a head-up about Falcon & Rogue team ... Beast & Nadia very disturb by the last revelation & where Voyager take the Pyramidion. And the team in the HQ who must face the Hulk wrath ... Poor Enigma ! If you hoped for the U.S.Avengers to finally do something ... Well not really ... Oh yes you have a Iron Hulk ... But do they really think we don't see hulk smash it too. Cover - for that matter so have fun. I take the variant. Fun, & related to the story ^^ 2/2 Writ ing - Three writer for that ... Ewing, Waid & Zub really disappointed me. 1/3 Arts - Medina do what he can ... And he did great. 3/3 Feeling - I really expected more. And they give "Disassembled" as exemple, damn I'm not a bendis fan but that was a good story. They are really far of it. 0/2 more
