MEET HISTORY'S MIGHTIEST HEROES!
The Avengers are lost in time, and if they're going to stop Mephisto's grand plan, they'll need help from some of history's greatest heroes, whose stories have never been told. Like the mystical man of war, Sgt. Szardos, Soldier Supreme of World War II, and his squadron of supernatural grunts, the Secret Invaders.

The Avengers #57 isn't an issue that provides a quick, clean representation of what an Avengers comic is. It does, however, perfectly present an issue emblematic of the current Avengers mega-story, which is weird and brilliant and every degree of "big deserving of Earth's Mightiest. Read Full Review

Similar to it's preceding issues, Avengers #57 stumbles in the delivery of what would otherwise be very interesting ideas. In the process, it deprives fans of the type of super heroics and team dynamics that they have to come to expect from an ensemble comic. Read Full Review

A fun and really entertaining read. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes

This issue feels disjointed as all hell. The Avengers taking a backseat and working in the shadows is a neat idea. But none of this has been explained, and I don't care about anyone they're helping. If you're going to do it this way, make me care.

We're traversing the multiverse forever looking at what if stories that we hope make sense but how long can this go on? It get tedious and boring after a while and needs to make a landing with some purpose sooner or it's back to the desert that was issues 20 through 47. And with deserts come mirages which is what this Avengers series has been: a desert full of interesting mirages that keep escaping me as soon as I think I get to them. Same thing is happening with Avengers Forever. Jason Aaron can't go on like this until issue 100?

As of the last issue of Avengers Forever, I was enjoying these weird little character vignettes. But this is the straw that broke my camel's back. Forward plot motion, forward plot motion, my kingdom for some forward plot motion! What's ironic is that I'd love this issue in a different context. The art is good, the war gear is well-researched, and the two-fisted Nazi-demon-fightin' action is fun. (I groused a bit about soldiers shipwrecked in the Irish Sea washing up on a tropical island, though.) I'm just done with this speculative crap in the Avengers is all. If Jason Aaron wants to keep writing up every random AU brainstorm he has, fine. Give him an "Avengers What If?" title and let him write it 'til his heart explodes. But giv more

After AXE I'm probably going to drop Avengers. Not sure how long Aaron is staying on but, I need off this run. Why I made it this far is a mystery. It's just another issue where he just throws ideas at a wall, and shows different versions of characters.

I see what Aaron tried to do here but it just didn't really work, this whole runs starting to turn back to the hot mess it was

I never thought I would be saying these words, I might stop reading The Avengers. Such a mess. I have yet to have an investment with any of the characters that is Aaron is writing in this series. It's as if they are strangers in familiar uniforms. Is there even a payoff for this series that will be worth all the time and money I have invested? I doubt it. The entire series is beyond redemption.
