The Avengers #9 doesn't actually do very much to advance the plot of either "Secret Empire" or its own series. It does, however, take its readers on an epic, character-driven adventure beautifully rendered by Mike del Mundo. Read Full Review

I get that Waid and del Mundo wanted to explore what is happening with Thor, but couldn't they have had a way to work in any other Avengers? I love Thor and read her title regularly, but when I read the Avengers I want all the Avengers not just the solo story of one of them. Read Full Review

A beautiful story about friendship. Del Mundo is never better than with strange territory and some monster. In this story he can let is art astonishing us. I love the part where Hecla make a hammer for Jane. A very strong one shot ! ... Read it !

Nominally a tie-in to Secret Wars, but this issue largely stands on its own as a one-shot adventure for Thor. The strange setting plays to Mike Del Mundo's strengths. The art is fantastic, and Mark Waid's simple but moving story works well. One of the best issues of Waid's Avengers so far.

First Mark Waid comic I don't "HATE!!!" in years. The art of Mike Del Mundo, no surprise here, is amazing.

This is a really good issue with a beautiful and touching ending. It also has badass moments, like when Thor grabs the bolt of lightning. The narration choice ends up being a very good one, and Del Mundo kills on art. Great stuff.

Where is Thor? Having a heartwarming alien adventure. How was she sent there and when will she get back? Well ... This self-contained one-shot is fun and moving as all get out. But don't let it off the hook due to sentiment; there are important questions about Thor's disappearance that are not at all answered here. It's certainly an enjoyable diversion, but it's not great enough to make you forget those questions. Mike del Mundo delivers his usual 90% awesome art. I'm not a fan of his cartoonier faces. Marvel has legions of artists who can do cartoony; Mr. del Mundo's more serious, painterly work is completely irreplaceable. Fortunately, I'm only talking about three or four goofy faces; for the rest of the issue Thor is a teeth-clenched lig more
