The Avengers arrive in San Francisco at Tigra's request to try to save Spider-Woman who is in a comatose state. Feeling that it is beyond their skills, Henry Pym & Dr. Strange are summoned. Unknown to them, Spider-Woman had travelled to the past with Magnus in her astral form to defeat Morgan Le Fay. She is unable to return to her physical body due to a spell cast by Le Fey which accounts for the "ghost" of her that is being seen. Her physical body destroyed, Le Fay plans to take over Spider-Woman's physical body, which will cause Jessica's astral form to fade away. (Cover date: February, 1984)
