Fanlight Zone - Richard Coryell
Sep 23, 2026The Last Starfighter #3 delivers a thoughtful, suspenseful issue that deepens Alex’s struggle with leadership while raising the stakes on Earth and in space. Strong character work and expressive artwork make this an effective bridge to the dangers ahead. This series should be on everyone’s radar and if you’re looking for an adventure story that delivers a great deal of emotion, you should give this series a shot. Read Full Review

Sep 23, 2026The subplot involving Centauri continues here, but it doesn’t provide anything new. What we get is him chewing out Grig, and Maggie being concerned about him while back on Earth. I’m curious to see what they do with it, but his anger is certainly justified when talking about who has paid a price in service to what’s going on. I like a lot of what’s going on here, but the only area that I haven’t felt invested in yet is everything with Naxos and her attacks. I know you have to have an opponent in a series like this to provide for some action, but I wish we had more stage-setting for what’s going on with Rylos and the League, and building the Starfighter group a bit more before going into it. Regardless, it continues to be a really fun book that’s one of the better movie continuations I’ve seen in a long time. Read Full Review

Plot
Alex leads his first mission with pilots Igu, Tyborus, Breeta, Hanu, and Xyla, but the battle results in the loss of Tyborus. Alex is unprepared to handle this initial failure as a team, especially given that the pilots do not get along with one another.
Louis, Alex’s younger brother, calls him from Nevada, USA, because a mysterious man is inquiring about the existence of extraterrestrials. Alex and Maggie go to investigate and reunite with his family; the trip allows Alex to take a breather back home.
Maggie confesses to her grandmother that she is worried about Centaury’s behavior, which appears to show signs of post-traumatic stress.
