This a captivating, energetic first issue, moving at an unstoppable clip even in its slow moments. Bucky is an engaging characteralmost too gruff to be likable but clever and introspective. The mystery is slow developing and compelling. Deer Editor #1 is a must buy for everyone who loves a hard boiled mystery. Deer Editor #1 is available to order until Monday, December 11 and arrives in your local comic shop on January 10, 2024. Read Full Review

Overall, a story as hardboiled as any of Patricia Cornwells books. The story by Lindsay, is dark, gritty and leaves readers spinning. The art by Kivela, is visceral and true to life. Altogether, a comic which will have readers looking for their copy of Brick, this comic is just as good. Read Full Review

    Comic Bastards - Ben Boruff

I read Deer Editor shortly after watching the producers of Spotlight"the biographical film about the journalists from The Boston Globe who exposed sex abuse in the Boston area by Catholic priests"take home the Oscar for Best Picture, and I believe that, though Spotlight deals with some heavier issues, audiences today appreciate the relevance of both stories. Maybe that appreciation is fueled by pervasive cynicism and a widespread belief that the inveterate criminals of today need to be exposed. Maybe we see ourselves, on some level, as investigative antiheroes, flawed individuals who search for truth, so we relate to characters like Bucky. Whatever the reasons, Deer Editor is a fun, meaningful read, and I recommend it. Read Full Review

Deer Editor #1 might seem like a silly concept, but it focuses on its core genre, hitting the beats you'd expect for good and bad. It's a crime comic that just so happens to have a deer as the main character. It's also well worth checking for those fans of the crime genre. Read Full Review
