As the kick off to the last arc of the book, The Wicked + The Divine #40 delivers perfectly. It begins the set-up, giving readers new mysteries to mull over. Its structured perfectly and the art pulls it all together, taking a lot of faces in the crowd and making them into people that readers will get invested in. WicDiv#40 is part jaw dropping arena show and vulnerable singer song writer gig with Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, and Matthew Wilson spending plenty of time developing and exploring the personalities of the fans of the Pantheon, and how the gods have an effect on their lives. With Minerva's master plan subbing in for the murder mystery, it's a throwback to the original arc where Gillen, McKelvie, and Wilson slowly revealed the gods' personalities and action through the POV of ultimate fangirl, Laura. There are murderous Minerva asides and heartfelt Baal self and family confessions, butWicDiv#40 gives a fresh non-insider perspective on the Pantheon before things get all opening sequence of recent Zack Snyder films. In the real world, we've seen music venues turned into scenes of horrible violence. While The Wicked + The Divine #40 looks to be following down that same path, Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie try to reclaim these spaces even as the world crumbles down around us all. Read Full Review

This creative team's five-years-in-the-making conclusion has now been set into motion and they have our full attention. The Wicked & The Divine #40 really toys with your emotions when there is everything to lose. What does it mean to save the world? The people you care about most? It seems those are the two big questions to keep in mind knowing that the worst is still yet to come. I just hope that this will be an end that we are satisfied with for the pacing that has picked up once again. Read Full Review
