The The Walking Dead started out strong with an innovative concept and diverse cast of characters. Too many characters and poor pacing severely weaken the product. The conflict between Rick and Hershel reaches its highest point in this issue. There wasn't a lot of zombies during this arc but bringing more depth to some of the supporting characters and adding a lot more drama continue to keep this series at an excellent level. The members of the group have to start a new life once again.

The conflict between Rick and Hershel reaches its full force in this tense issue. Honestly, I can understand why Hershel is so unstable. The day before this issue transpires he had just lost THREE of his children (granted, one was long dead already, but he never accepted Shawn’s death until the barn disaster). Then he finds Maggie shacking up with Glenn the very next morning. And THEN Rick comes out of the blue and asks Hershel if his group can stay in his house (you know, since more rooms are now available). And THEN Hurricane Lori strikes, and that is the final straw for Hershel. Not only does he almost slap a pregnant Lori, but he puts a gun to Rick’s head. Later on he agonizingly confesses to Otis just how close he was to pulling th at trigger. Make no mistake. Rick was almost a goner in this issue. A combination of grievous losses and horrific timing on Rick and Lori’s part created a perfect storm in which Hershel’s sanity became compromised. Rick admits to Allen earlier in the issue that he actually has made out fairly well in the apocalypse so far. He has his wife and child intact, and perhaps that is why Rick appears so often to be in such a stable state of mind. I believe every person has certain tethers that anchor them to their sanity. When those tethers break, it becomes harder and harder to maintain a firm grasp on the good person one tries to be. Despite some close calls, Rick has never been untethered yet. But how long can his luck hold out in a world where each new hope can so easily metamorphose into despair? more

The Walking Dead Deluxe Issue: 12 Publisher: @imagecomics & @skyboundent Writer: @robkirkman Artist: @charlie_adlard Colorist: @dave.mccaig Variant Cover: Tony Moore & Dave McCaig Original Cover: @coloneltonymoore Letterer: @ruswooton After Hershel attempts to heard a walker into the barn, the imprisoned walking dead escape and wreak havoc among those on the farm. This results in the death of two of Hershel’s children. In a desperate attempt to save the rest of the farm, everyone took up arms to kill the remaining walkers. The farm is as safe as it can be now that the looming threat of walkers has been taken care of. Rick and his people now have a save place to live. Or so he thought. Hershel wants them gone and now R ick and his people must go back into the unknown to survive. My reread of this fantastic series in stunning full color has been so much fun! I love seeing this disgusting walkers in color. The artwork has been so well done with the new added color work. In this issue we see Rick and his people thrown out of Hershel’s farm and are now left to fend for themselves. The conflict between Rick and Hershel reaches its full force in this tense issue. Hershel’s pain drives him to this decision as we see him losing self control because of everything he has lost. We must now see the group struggle to start over yet again.
