Saga #29

Vaughan's Hazel narration of issue 29 is such a tease too, teasing sacrifice for several panels while flashing back and forth to several life or death moments between all of our main cast. The effect was so racked with tension that I couldn't handle it. By the time we see what he means by 'sacrifice' we're left reeling once again. Saga sweeps the leg in issue #29, Vaughan and Staples shaking up their various storylines in increasingly damaging ways. Vaughan's finely tuned characterization ensures no secondary character falls by the wayside, just as Staples' emotive visuals give them the attention they deserve. Twenty-nine issues is a lot for a single creative team on one title, and it wouldnt be surprising if things stagnated a little in this situation. And yet, Vaughan and Staples are surpassing those expectations by delivering a great issue. While some of the preceding issues that have been setting up these storylines havent been classics (though Saga #27 was pretty close), this issue really hits all the marks. Saga #29 is a disappointment. It finally wraps up one storyline that wasn't that interesting while ending another in a very unsatisfying and poor manner. Combined with writing and characterization that isn't up to speed, this is easily one of the weakest issues of the series to date. Unless the last issue somehow redeems everything, I can't help but foresee this being one story arc everyone is going to speed through when they reread the series in the future. Read Full Review

It is so horrible see Saga turn into such a boring and meaningless thing. I hope the last issue do something memorable.

It's not as if Saga had become a horrible read, it just doesn't feel like a masterpiece anymore. Okay, maybe the masterpiece feel fell short after the first storyline, but now it's really going down in the midst of so many other beautiful books by Image Comics. The story is not so gripping anymore and Vaughan and Staples don't seem to be able to invent anything of such impact as was Sextillion for example (although that perverted dragon was amazing). Death falls on characters but we don't care much as we have experienced so much in the past. Waiting to fall in love again. Still a, common, good read.
