Old Guard #5

The Old Guard #5 caps off and intense and exciting story arc. I found it to be a thrilling and gripping ride, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I developed an affection for the characters, especially Andy, and yes, even Booker. The art is striking and edgy and that combined with the beautiful colouring, makes for a compelling visual narrative. I'm looking forward to when The Old Guard returns, and joining Andy and her ragtag group of immortal warriors on their next journey. Read Full Review

Rucka's writing and Fernandez's art " they're a lethal one-two punch. Come to think of it now, I was probably wrong up at the start " it's really hard to tell which one is the setup and which one is the knockout. While not a true conclusion (the book is set to return in 2018), Greg Rucka's latest does a great job of tying up the many plot points and threads set up in his first arc. He does so in gleefully bloody fashion, his script a mix of John Wick-style run-and-gun action and complex character interplay. Read Full Review

As a conclusion to an arc it lacks due to insufficient build up and thin characterization, but as an individual issue it's a fun and bombastic romp that I wish just held more impact. Read Full Review

This was a damn exciting conclusion to the first arc of "The Old Guard," a series in which almost every chapter has been great. This is all non-stop action, as The Old Guard asserts itself and kicks (or, kills) ass. There is a lot bloodshed here, but it's done in a stylistically cool way. I wasn't familiar with Leandro Fernandez before this series, but his art is absolutely brilliant. Great book.
