Comics: The Gathering - Nathan Koffler

This team has taken so many terribly real things about life and artistically created a comic book of them so that we can see these nightmares outside of our minds. Weird Science - Andrew McAvoy

This time round though there is a sense of an issue which is now starting to establish linkages with a broader piece of storytelling, and we seem to be getting a greater level of story continuation in a series that has consisted of (seemingly) standalone issues to date. I'm really enjoying each issue with this series of horror anthology at its finest. The art is solid, great storytelling mixed with dark humor this book is a must for horror fans. Keep the ice cream coming!

"Ice Cream Man" #4 stands as a great example of a horror comic as it was kind and touching in some areas, but absolutely dark and depressing in others. The scene in hell when Chris watched his father, over nine panels, leave over and over again, is pretty devastating. And it managed to be funny too. Really fun/dark issue of a series that I'll be definitely picking up the next issue of in July.

This is my favourite ongoing at the moment, even if this particular issue was slightly weaker than the previous 3. There was some good imagery in this issue and a cliffhanger that is definitely intriguing.

A disappointing fourth issue. The cliffhanger at the end is interesting in the formation of a larger narrative, but the story within this individual issue is weak. There is no background as to why Chris is experiencing this torture after death, and frankly I don't care either because he isn't a character who I have ever heard of before. This series has some nice moments, but it is reaching for more without getting there. It may achieve that goal in the next run, but on present form it is torn between being an anthology series or having an over-arching plot. If it is to be the latter, then more of the Ice Cream Man is needed in each issue. If it is to be the former, then it needs better constructed stories than this one.
