Outright Geekery - Aubrey Douglas
Jan 21, 2016This issue was fun. You are introduced to new characters, a few whom meet a swift and brutal end, as is customary of many that are unlucky enough to come across our main character. We see some new locations, as both Gerty and Happy make their way across the magical and sometimes brutally gross landscape to reach their goals. Wednesday Comics - Alex Prostrollo
Jan 21, 2016This issue is fabulous! The art and story are so great, as the reader I can feel the anger and irritation that Queen Cloudia has for Gert. And as for Gertrude she seems almost tired of killing everything and yet still take great joy and pride in doing so. I love how this story has different fables and fairy tale people who are just generic but I love more that the covers show hilarious and yet disturbing images of what Gert does to the fables and characters we all know and love (issue 4 is Gert showing disembodied feet to a fearful prince with a glass slipper). More of the epic cartoon fun that I've come to expect from this series. I especially love how Darketh Deaddeath goes overboard on his skull décor.

This series has been good up to this point, and the art is really REALLY great, but the story in this issue just felt a bit slower than it needed to be. I was hoping for something more than just a "gotcha" moment to explain Gert's situation, but I understand that it needed to happen, and the "why" of it is less important that the fact that it happens. I loved the way the mirror realm looked in this issue, and the way that Skottie substitutes Gerts profanity for cute less-offensive words is a great thread to this story's humor. I have a lot of hope for this story to bounce back from this issue, and for things to go back to the coco-banana bonkers stuff that I had come to expect Darketh Deaddeath's dungeon to be EXACTLY how this story goes more
