The art work alone is worth every penny, but the story line that contributes to the Spawn timeline as well as provides a real "fish out of water" tale is beyond description as you have to read this comic several times over to love both the script as well as appreciate the art. By the end of the issue's main story, readers learn quickly the stakes are going to be high in this series. And that's probably McFarlane's greatest strength as a writer " the plotting. The dialogue is good enough here, but narration leaves a bit to be desired. (That's what makes King Spawn stand out so much.)
