Frank J. Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham have built a tidy little homage to pulp classics here, with a healthy nod to Indiana Jones-style adventuring. Like the first issue, Five Ghosts #2 establishes a bit of Fabian's past with sepia-tinged memories that I neglected to credit to colorist S. M. Vidaurri " joined here by Lauren Affe " last month. Of course, all bets (and allusions) are off when Fabian actually gets to do that thing he does, but that's why you're reading this book in the first place, right? It's a very cool premise that just happens to be set against a pulpy backdrop for context and intrigue. Come for the spirits, stay for the spiders. So many spiders. Read Full Review

Like the best pulp adventures (although using 'pulp' here is really only to describe the inspiration), we simply accept that these mystical happenings are the norm in Fabian Gray's world. It's not done with irony like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen either, it simply delivers a rip-roaring adventure that gives us more questions about the nature of Gray's "tragic encounter" years ago. Equally dazzling is Chris Mooneyham's distinctive vintage style, that captures the spirit of the pulp adventures that inspire it, raising it to the epic proportions of Alan Moore's Tales of the Black Freighter. This was a fun, fast-paced issue and a great way to keep readers excited about what's to come next. It is only the second issue you can tell that Barbiere has something big planned. There aren't many adventure themed comics out there to begin with, if you're not reading this book you're missing out on one of the few remedies out there. Read Full Review

Five Ghosts: The Haunting of Fabian Gray #2 is a seamless continuation of the exciting first issue, with even more emphasis on the action and the same consistently brilliant illustration. In the two issues released so far, Five Ghosts has not been a thematically or meaningfully deep story but in terms of its aesthetic surface and delivery of its cathartic moments it absolutely shines. If you like the sound of a pulp genre adventure comic with aspects of horror added into the mix then this comic is surely worth your time; the creators of Five Ghosts know its purpose, understand the possibilities and restrictions of its subgenre and ensured that it excels within that space. . . $3,22pgs+2pg backup. Great Pulpy Cover! all ADs @back. . . . Another installment of pulpy noir mystical thriller, which does not disappoint. The Art and colors are very good for their genre, as is the book's design. An odd opener provides a lot of back story, in an imaginative and effective way. Then right into the action and adventure, which goes a bit fantasy. Drop in page count, drop in price from issue #1. A good ride!
