The Weekly Crisis - Hansel Moreno
Nov 05, 2013Hickman, Dragotta, Martin and in no small measure Rus Wooton suss out this tale slowly and majestically. A vein is explored for and issue and forgotten for a few, we backtrack and flash forward. Who we thought was meaningless is raised to near messiah proportions. Nov 06, 2013Even though East of West can be a confusing series, for the most part (with some revision) it is easy enough to follow. A great thing about the story is that it flows and never feels like a chore to read. The universe of East of West is incredible and it is always fun to see it expand. Although Jonathan Hickman's writing can come off as cryptic, he is still a skilled writer and teamed with Nick Dragotta, he makes a killer comic book. If you haven't started reading East of West I would advise picking up the first trade as it's dirt cheap and will get you caught up quickly. East of West is one of the best books coming out of Image and this issue is really solid and well worth picking up. Read Full Review

Nov 06, 2013Hickman and Dragotta have set themselves up with the perfect Western. All the right themes have fit into place and the characters finally feel developed enough to carry their own plots. Westerns are typically quite slow, so it's nice to see the training wheels off after six issues. Nov 11, 2013Nick Dragotta's art continues to be one of the strongest things about the series. Dragotta has a keen eye for creating surreal surroundings that are alien, but not unfamiliar. His line work is solid, and the use of solid colors in the background allows for a nice sense of unease. Dragotta also has a great imagination for machines, and for creating a hybrid of nature and technology. While Hickman's work in East of West is starting to unravel, Draggota's art remains tight as ever. Read Full Review

Another great issue here. This time, we get into Ezra's origins in The Message, as well as a nice glimpse into the past of the Four Horsemen. I will say that I think we need to start getting into more ongoing story, as opposed to jumping around in the way this issue and the previous issue did. It's nice to get stuff like this and I really enjoyed it, but I also want something that builds more off of what's already been established.

It is starting to feel like too little is being said and set up without much goal to reach. It's a great read but rather nebulous.

I really like this series because it's raw, fantastic, and not afraid to take risks, but I'm a little concerned that it's starting to get away from the creative team. They've given the reader a whole lot to think about, but nothing really tangible to pull us in. A little too much mystery on top of confusion right now. Definitely worth sticking with this series right now, I just hope things begin to appear and clarify.
