D'Orc #1
| Writer | Brett Bean |
| Artist | Brett Bean |
| Cover Price | $3.99 |
Armed with nothing but a magical yet ambitiously violent shield, a lonely orphan stumbles headfirst into Sunderaine's never-ending war between the Light and Dark. Elves vs. Orcs. Wizards vs. Common Sense. Dragons vs. Literally Everyone. And caught dead-center? D'ORC.
With a wholly inconvenient doomsday prophecy, the half dwarf, half orc-all D'ORC-is fated to end the world. Soon, every human, elf, goblin, dwarf, Snargletooth, Necroid, Ice Giant, Trauma Llama, and at least three other unpronounceable magical creatures, will know his name and want him dead. There will also be a chicken.

Feb 04, 2026With it's difficult to find fault in a single part of D'Orc #1. As a goofy, OTT opening chapter to, presumably, a goofy and OTT series, it clearly won't be for everyone - but it wouldn't be anywhere near as charming if it were trying to be. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff
Feb 04, 2026There's a great deal of potential in the first issue of the series. There's a lot of different directions that Bean could go in with the script. It's really refreshing to see both good and evil seen as being basically counterproductive. Often an epic fantasy things are over simplified to a ridiculous degree. It's really nice to see an epic grand scale fantasy adventure that just happens to feel like a really relatable contrast between extremes. This sort of thing is really difficult to maintain in the long run, though. So it'll be interesting to see exactly what choices Bean makes as the series continues. Read Full Review

Feb 04, 2026D'Orc #1 is interesting to read with its "both sides suck" view of the world, echoing so many in our real world, but it thankfully has a bit more going for it than an apathetic character who oozes Gen X neutrality. The debut teases a story about how when even staying neutral you can be negatively caught up in the actions of others. That neutrality doesn't work and action needs to be taken to right things or at least counter the negativity that abounds. Take those lessons and mix them with a cute facade and an increasing body count and you have a series we're excited for. Read Full Review

Is it really that good? Is the hype unnaturally hyped? Is it worthy of the high price people are asking for a first print copy? $100? Please no. I give it a $20, based on the low print run. An honest review: it is good, fast pace, almost really funny, visually modern, good collouring,...But it kinda doesn't feel original, the prophecy child between 2 opposite worlds... But it is nonetheless fun and you're in for the next issue.
