Descender #6

With each issue of Descender, more and more mysterious pile up. Even when questions are answered, more questions are presented to the reader. Even though Dr. Quon says Professor Solomon is gone, it would not surprise me to see him pop up down the line. The surprise at the end is just the latest mystery in what has been a great six issues. Descender #6 is an excellent finale for the first part of the series. We spent most of the time in the past, where we learned and discovered new and interesting aspects to this series. While we didn't spend as much in the present, we still walked away learning a lot in the end. The story, writing, characters, and artwork are all blending together just perfectly in this comic. This issue is definitely a success. We get a lot of character development and a lot of mystery. Even though this is a story about robots, we still get a decent amount of emotion thrown in. This is a vital issue in the Descender series. It gives enough answers to advance the overall story without removing the mystery. If anything, it adds some new questions. Barring the "wildcard" near the end of the issue, this is about as good as they come. If you aren't reading this series, chase it down, get the trade, don't miss it. Read Full Review

Descender returns in November with issue 7, but the first six installments will be available in trade paperback form in September. If you havent been following the series, this is the perfect opportunity to begin. You will not regret reading this, regardless of the emotional turmoil and suffering involved in waiting for each installment. This is easily one of the most consistently awesome books released this year. Every issue brings surprises, and the artwork is magnificent. It will be a difficult wait for issue 7. Read Full Review

'Descender' #6 sets up the next arc with great plot development and even though it's not as climatic a finish as you'd expect, the cliffhanger exposes another storyline that's intriguing no matter how haphazard it feels.  Read Full Review

Jeff Lemire builds off of the limb lending events of last issue, using a flashback structure as a way of fleshing out the less than fleshy origins of his robotic world. While the overall impact of these reveals is yet to be known, with hinted allusions to events past and possibly coming, the issue does a solid job in furthering Quon's layered history with robots in general.
