Mar 10, 2016Descender has another fantastic outing here where it lays down a lot of information without providing in a massive dump. There are a lot of smaller things learned that builds a larger narrative and a lot of dangers lurking in the midst. This book serves as a great building block for the larger story that's at play with so many things introduced seemingly so casually yet with a layer of importance that can't be understated. Lemire continues to deliver a great story that Nguyen takes up by several levels because of the beauty, pacing, and designs of the artwork. This is a collaboration that just resulted in something very hard to decribe in a way, but something that reminds that this is what kind of creativity the market needs a whole lot more of. I dig deep into superheroes but they are not the end all be all for me. And Descender is a shining beacon of where more books need to go. Read Full Review

Flickering Myth - Zeb Larson
Mar 10, 2016As we approach Descender's third arc, I feel like we're back on track again. Genocide and war are good for building dramatic tension, and Quon is once again staring down the barrel of a gun. Tim isn't in much better shape either. All of the characters are going to have to hit the ground running if they want to stay alive, and if humanity is going to survive, the UGC is going to have to step up as well. Lemire doing his usual excellent writing making you feel things that warm your heart or crush your soul. The third arc will surely continue more of the best work in comics. Not really a conclusion to "Machine Moon", more like a cliffhanger. That's okay, though I feel like more progress could have been made over the last three issues. I didn't care for the exposition in this one; while I know a certain amount of exposition is necessary, it doesn't make sense to repeat conversations that have already been had. That being said, there is a big reveal halfway through this issue that opens some interesting doors.

Though the different story lines in this comic are all starting to unfold more and more and as readers we are getting to see the bigger picture, especially in regards to the Robot Resistance and what they had been doing and how they had been living after their banishment from the UGC, the story is beginning to feel a little static and stale. The build-up of the previous　issues of this LeMirian universe had me eagerly reserving each issue from my local comic book shop in hopes that slow peeling aways of this story would deliver on all the promise and anticipation I had been feeling about it.
