The Graphic Library - Sara Campbell
Jan 12, 2021This story has been lauded as a book that really captures what it’s like to be a musician, but, as a musician, I’m not totally seeing it. There are some great descriptive phrases in the narrative voice, but capturing what it’s like to play music and be lost in what you’re creating through art is pretty difficult. The creepy ghoul and the fact that the musician is named Erik brings me back to The Phantom of the Opera since The Phantom’s real name is Erik, and he definitely haunts musicians with promises of improving their musicianship. The illustrations make use of very ethereal watercolors, which enhances the dark themes of the story. There are a few pages within the story that are beautifully composed with stunning coloring, and others that will seat into your brain and haunt you for days to come. Read Full Review

This was absolutely phenomenal, one of the best graphic novels I've read this year. The story works as both a psychological character deconstruction and a gripping mystery, along with the perfect blend of horror and unsettling visuals that elevate this book to incredible heights. Ram V's writing is rhythmically riveting and spellbinding; I often found myself reading dialogues over again and also being taken aback by the sheer impactfulness of heavy, short blurbs of dialogue. Anand RK's art style in this book specifically is unnerving, yet beautiful and unique. Much like Ram's writing, my eyes were glued to the page, glaring at the gor more+ Like • Comment -

It leaves a lot of it up to interpretation but, it's expertly crafted, highly engaging and amazing to look at.
