Blood & Thunder #5

This issue really drives home the message that this story is based around, while expanding the plot and drawing the reader fully in. Benito Cereno does an excellent job of pushing the story forward while delivering a clear message within the story. The message of a lesser class plays into real life issues of racism and really makes the story relatable. Cereno delivers this message without being didactive which makes it palatable to all readers. The fact that he can walk the line of delivering a direct message while delivering a great story with great action is a testament to how good of a writer he is. Read Full Review

What a difference it makes to have the title characters in their own series. The previous issue of Blood & Thunder struggled to connect because of the series' leads absence. Having Akeldama Bledsoe, aka Blood, get involved in the greater plot makes all the difference to add a sense of importance to the story. Read Full Review

The art by EJ Su is very good. The book tries to weave humor in and is largely successful. EJ is great at sight gags and facial expressions. Not sure where the story is going, but that's ok. It has kept me coming back.

I am so close to dumping this series … but there is just something here that keeps me hanging on. I enjoyed last issue and where this issue started - but once Akeldama (Blood) showed up in the story again … I started to lose interest. The profanity and childish dialogue takes a book that features a somewhat intriguing plot and knocks it down a few pegs. I have the next issue waiting in my pull-box … it could be my last.
