Black Science #23

Okay, lets cut to the chase. Black Science is, for my money, the most consistently brilliant series on the shelves today, an accolade it has held in my opinion, at least for the best part of three years now. Remenders work has honestly never been better, and his seamless collaboration with Scalera continues to redefine just how well a writer and artist should be working together. Black Science #23 is another impressive issue in a fantastic series. Grant becomes more and more likable the more he screws up. While Scalera does a wonderful job with the art especially creating the scary fairytale forest. Read Full Review

Black Science has always been weird, and this issue certainly is. But it's a series that has become totally flexible and fluid, anchored by a tale of possible redemption that we can all relate to. As such, Black Science #23 gives us the strongest proof yet that this is a series that only keeps getting stronger. Read Full Review

The second issue of this new arc substituted more genuine and naturalized humor for the slapstick we saw in the previous issue and it was better for it. A nice twist on a Grimm fairy tale delivers and leaves Grant in yet another perilous situation. Read Full Review

The only downside here is that we clearly have a bridge to the next main plot point so this issue doesn't entirely stand on it's own merits. But it is still a fun read, that is beautifully rendered and brings us further into the Onion, deeper down the rabbit hole and more lost in the world of Black Science. Read Full Review

I've really enjoyed this particular world and its fantasy-meets-science arc, but the preview for the next issue makes it sound as though Grant might be returning home. What's going to happen? I honestly can't see an easy path from this issue's conclusion to our world, or rather, one that doesn't end in disaster for a lot of people. Business as usual, and Black Science is as good as ever.
