Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #71

TMNT Ongoing #71 is what it is, while the story is not all that exciting it is necessary to push the ongoing narrative and give some background information to these Pantheon characters that have been popping up since almost the beginning of this series. The art is what really shines and holds the attention of the reader with great looking characters and a wonderful color palate. It is not a good jumping on point at all for a new reader, but fans of the series will enjoy learning about theses characters and what they have in store for our favorite turtles and the universe as a whole. I mean, its not a bad issue per se, but it does feel a bit like Ive accidentally picked up an entirely different comic, save for the final page. Im all for trying something different to flesh supporting characters out, and the overall experience isnt exactly an unpleasant one, but as an issue of IDWs ongoing TMNT series, this falls down significantly and is far from essential reading as a result. It's weird that they introduce members of their own family to each other, it makes for transparent exposition. It is interesting to see all of the Pantheon, or at least most of them, having dinner together. It is a curious nature that governs this universe.

lots of exposition to finally introduce all the members of the Pantheon.
i have said before that there are times when the Tmnt feel like guest stars within their own comic.
this is DEFINITELY one of those times!!!!

The Rat King really shines in this issue.
but that's about all it has going for it.
