I think some readers have been waiting for the next big story arc to come out, but knowing the background behind it all is the true gift. The writing’s sharp too. Even though this issue is almost entirely one long fight scene, every character gets ample time to show off their personality. Tom Waltz easily could’ve let this thing write itself, dragging things out till Bebop and Rocksteady are inevitably defeated, but he gives us teamwork, camaraderie and some tantalizing details that add a lot to the general personality of the book. Mondo Gecko and Herman the Hermit Crab come into their own as characters, instead of falling back on the tropes that have defined their existence so far. I don’t know whose idea it was to have Mondo Gecko offer a fist-bump when Splinter requests a handshake, but it’s a great detail, and the comic is loaded with tiny moments like this that push it past a good issue and into serious achievement territory. All in all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #40 was a fun read with lots of action scenes and seeing how well all theses characters can work together. The dialogue was great as well, especially Mondo Gecko who talks like the 1987 Michelangelo. If you haven't bought Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles #40 I suggest you go and buy it along with the other two issues to the story arc if your looking for some mutant fun until the next issue comes out. Forty issues in, IDWs TMNT somehow manages to get better and crazier. Even though the Turtles are so popular, it still feels like this series is an underrated gem flying under everyones radar. If you still arent reading this, you need to catch up as soon as possible. Read Full Review

TMNT #40 is a massive amount of fun. They take the simple idea of Bebop and Rocksteady vs. everyone else and turn it into a total blast. It's funny and intense and the art team makes the whole experience a total joy to look at. If you simply want to enjoy a massive, animated brawl, you're going to get your money's worth and then some with this one. Sure, it feels like everyone else is being downplayed to boost just how tough Bebop and Rocksteady really are, but it's still such a good time. Oh, and that final page? Those waiting for a full-on action issue won't be disappointed, although the far less action-packed subplot between Casey and April's father grows the relationship between the two characters but mostly gets in the way of more awesome action. The extended fight sequence is great, and Donatello‘s own actions at the end of the issue foreshadow unusual days to come, but I'm most happy with the return of Alopex who has apparently found her home in the city with Angel. The panels between the arctic fox and Raphael are ridiculously cute and I'm hoping we'll see far more of her in the future (along with a toy!). Worth a look. Read Full Review

A really fuckin good issue. Artistically stellar. The battle scene was so good a full issue of Bebop and Rocksteady Vs the Turtles and Co...Minor gripe is that Bebop and Rocksteadys voice seems a little mixed up still. At times they come off as immature but it feels like the writers lack of ability to create humor. At times he does well tho so it's a minor thing. The ending like most issues was so good you just can't wait for that next issue. Best part for me was when Angela got hit by Rocksteady and still lands on her feet. It was drawn so well and had so much life and movement like every page in this great issue.

What I really like about this is that we get a brawl with Bebop and Rocksteady that lasts the entire issue. Many other titles would have kept the fight to just a few pages but it's really flushed out and enjoyable here. There are also some great character moments, especially with Raph and Alopex. Plus, there's a great cliffhanger at the end.
