IT WAS A DARK AND FROGGY EVENING!
It’s time to cue the music; it’s time to dim the lights! It’s time to get things started as the Muppets return tonight!
The show is about to begin at the famous Muppet Theatre, and the regular pre-curtain chaos has the troupe’s stalwart MC, Kermit the Frog, coming apart at the seams. In an attempt to de-stress, he settles down to read a few pages of a favorite old detective novel — only to get kayoed by an errant brick to the bean, leaving him laid out backstage as his co-stars try to coax him back to consciousness.

Feb 18, 2026In a better world, The Muppets Noir would get the same level of hype as the recent Sabrina Carpenter special on Disney Plus. Alas, comics are not streaming specials and all the wishing in the world will not make them so. Still, if you are a fan of The Muppets, comics, and/or Film Noir, you will enjoy The Muppets Noir. Feb 22, 2026The story really feels like Kermit casting a film noir with his fellow Muppets, and Roger Langridge has a ball with the language and casting. Plotwise, The Muppets Noir #1 is establishing and exploring, but there’s a bit of a curve ball in the last few pages. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff
Feb 18, 2026The Muppets have covered quite a bit of ground over the decades and a number of different projects which continue to this day. Kind of hard to find something that would be genuinely new for them to be doing at this stage. Gumshoe Private eye spoof is likely to be a great deal of fun on the page once Langrige really gets going on it. It's going to feel a bit strange seeing things move through the traditional beats of detective fiction with so much felt, but it could be fun. Read Full Review

Feb 18, 2026The art is great. There are some fun expressions for the characters and I love the visual style of it. I just wish the story was worthy of the visuals. Read Full Review

In art and story The Muppets Noir #1 feels like something from a different time … a simpler time … a better time. The narrative is simple and pretty much only exists to tie the gags together and there are plenty … including some “musical” pages. When reading the dialogue I could almost hear the voices of Jim Henson & Frank Oz (something that is lacking from the Disney Muppets). I think this is the first Muppet comic from Dynamite … so I have to wonder why they rated it “teen” when clearly this story is for everyone, young and old. There is a slight edge to the comic, but nothing as edgy as those early days of the OG Muppet Show. I would recommend this book for young readers and those young at heart who read the old Muppet strips and comics more
