There are times that it feels like the best way to do a good Sonja book is to do a good Groo book and just rework some of the parts. There are just so many similarities between the two! Palmiotti and Conner set us on a good path here with a couple of good action sequences to be had, some solid character drama, characters introduced (and some killed) that keep us on our toes about who to embrace. And a bit of the magical with the time spent with the sirens. I'm excited to see where this particular book will go as I like this interpretation of the character and Moritat's artwork is just ideal in presenting us with something that's exciting to look at in combination with the solid script. The Invincible Red Sonja #1is a great jumping-on point for new readers interested in the classic character. Rather than bogging you down with decades of lore, this book gives you what you need to know and sends you on your way with Sonja at your side, hacking and slashing her way into and out of trouble. 'The Invincible Red Sonja' #1 is off to a roaring start. Sonja keeps getting herself into one predicament after another chopping heads along the way. It's a raucous good time led by Palmiotti and Conner who are obviously having a ball. If you're a fan of Red Sonja or want to be, 'The Invincible Red Sonja' is a can't miss opportunity for mindless fun and adventure. Read Full Review

There's plenty of action here for Sonja to sink her sword into while setting up the larger story of Sonja protecting Zaria. The art by Moritat is a bit more cheesecake than I'd prefer, but it certainly fits within the theme of the character. Read Full Review

Strong start to the series. Conner and Palmiotti do a great job channelling the wild and crazy spirit of the old Thomas/Thorne issues and while Moritat's art seems to have divided critics, I think it's perfect for this book. He draws a muscular Sonja who looks like she can take anything on and the fight scenes are chaotic and gory. His facial expressions are brilliant and add a ton of humour to the book. Highly recommended and I can't wait to see where the series goes next.

I can see it getting better, but the plot and art failed to drag me into this world. Everybody is kind of a jerk. But hey, I like bodyguard stories, and the next issue will be one of these.
