SHEENA: QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE #1 (re)introduces readers to the Queen of the Jungle with a mystery centered around the culture clash of nature versus progress. The characters are established with clear, concise motivations. The setup is plausible given Sheenas disdain for the modern world. And the art is a seamless fit for the writing. That said, the first few pages are a little jarring as they assume the readers know all the players, setting, and history without much setup, and it takes a few pages to get oriented. Sheena is a character that I often thing about as a one trick pony, who may seem less capable of smart as her Dynamite stable mates. Part of this is how she was used a few years back in the Swords of Sorrow crossover event and part of it is that I don't like jungle books. This opening issue is similar to what they say in what it feels like, a kind of Jurassic World experience, but with some fun little twists to it. Mooney's script is a bit rough at the start with what they're trying to accomplish by burning through the setup quickly, but it's just awkward. It evens out later once we reach the Biome at least, Morales' artwork is really good throughout and I like their take on Sheena in general, and am really curious to see how they handle the animals as the series goes on. Those can be the hardest things to illustrates and this series demands a solid presentation there. So far, I'm quite optimistic. Read Full Review

I don't normally enjoy many stories that have a jungle setting, not for any particular reason it just doesn't excite me much, but this one has my attention. Yes, for that reason, but also because the story has a nice set up and I love a good mystery. https://youtu.be/EtKGyk1G1fE
