Teen Titans #16

Teen Titans 16 is a somewhat of a throwback issue. Wolfman only writes the original New Teen Titans here. There are no Aqualad or Kid Flash or Damian. He is solely concentrating on three characters from his 1980s run and as such brings the sense of nostalgia and fan service to the book. It would have been interesting to see Wolfmans take on the rest of the team, but none of this takes away from the fact that book is an enjoyable look at the original cast. Read Full Review

Buy the book, if your any kind of DC fan at all who has ever either loved Starfire at one point or another or loved the Teen Titans in any way shape or form your going to love this inclusion into their mythos. Read Full Review

Teen Titans#16 has considerable strengths. However, I disliked the feeling of this being a filler issue. Starfire certainly shined, but the meaning and consequence of the story felt shortchanged. Still,Teen Titans #16 strikes a good tone. The story is compact and wraps neatly in a single issue. Wolfman's return brings nostalgia and weight to this one-off issue. Derenick's art is well-paired with Wolfman's dialogue. The colors were excellent and leptoff the page. However, the issue felt less than critical to the continuity of Teen Titans. I don't think it's a bad comic. But at the same time I don't think it's a phenomenal read, either. In my opinion, this issue could easily be skipped and you would not really miss a thing, since the issue has some questionable choices regarding characterization, somewhat inconsistent artwork where bodily proportions are way off, and a number of plot holes that make the narrative very wobbly for me. As such, I would not recommend buying this issue unless you are a hardcore Starfire fan and have been looking to read a story where she takes center-stage, or you just don't want to leave any holes in your Rebirth Teen Titans comics collection. Tom Derenick, Trevor Scott, and Jim Charalanmpidis helm the artwork as penciller, inker, colorist, respectively and its fine. It doesnt distract from the storytelling nor does it enhance in any way. Hopefully moving forward the series will go back to using more unique styles as it did in the beginning with Khoi Pham and Jonboy Meyers. In the end this issue is inoffensive and uninteresting both in its writing and its art. If theres any comic to skip this week, this is it. Read Full Review

This was pretty nostalgic. It is great to see Marv Wolfman writing the Teen Titans again and this series really hasn't had character specific stories, so more of that will certainly be pleasant. This won't blow you away, but fans will appreciate the simple story. Others will probably be annoyed by how sensitive Starfire is.

Agreed: "This was a fun character spotlight for Starfire" but alas it felt like of filler tale importance which it didn't have too. At least Gar got a hug with Kor.
