Supergirl #8

This issue was a much needed balm on the bruised and battered super-cousin relationship of the last few years. The very title 'The Super Family' shows just what this Rebirth universe is going for. This touched on all the topics - Supergirl trying to fit in, Superman being impressed and always being there for Kara, Kara always being there for him, and ready to save the universe together. Look, I don't need the specter of Superman in every issue. I don't want her falling over herself to be like him. I don't want him controlling her. But they are family and he is a good role model. They shouldn't be strangers. They definitely shouldn't be adversaries. So thank you Steve Orlando, Matias Bergara, and the whole Superman Reborn team. This is just what I have wanted. Supergirl #8 crosses over with three other storylines while serving as a wholly satisfying story in itself. It's deft and fun and maintains the tone of the rest of the series even as it ties up loose ends from other comics. Read Full Review

All in all, Supergirl #8 hits the spot, taking as much of the TV Supergirl (which I greatly enjoy) as they can and putting it all together in the Rebirth DCU with dynamic, strong art and some new concepts folded in as well. Read Full Review

Overall, the issue is a lot of fun. It reads straightforwardly, but unpacks so much by the time youve finished it. We are beginning to see just how much the Reborn storyline is going to affect the overall DC Universe. For the Super-family, it appears that this reboot is the best thing to happen to them in a long time. Definitely pick up this issue and get reacquainted with the cousins. Read Full Review

More Emerald Empress and stronger art would have helped his fun story considerably. A tease to whet Legion fans' thirst for an ongoing title coupled with a great reason for the super powered cousins to meet makes this a good read, but an average visual experience. Read Full Review

Superman might be the main guest attraction this issue, but he's not the only hero making an appearance. Batgirl is keeping a watchful eye on Supergirl, which leads to next issue's Batgirl vs. Supergirl. If it was as entertaining as this issue, Supergirl might see an uptick in readership. Batgirl can be seen briefly in this issue spying on Supergirl. She is oblivious Batgirls spying for sure. But, it looks like there could be a fight between them. Im a little lost because they just teamed up in the Batgirl Annual and the story line was said to continue in issue 9 of Supergirl. Guess we have to wait and see where that is headed. Theres not a ton of action going on in this issue. Everything is just plot points leading up to a bigger story line. Its still an interesting read, but its a little slow. Read Full Review

I think it's easy for people to brush off Supergirl, because she may not be as dynamic as some of the other characters. Steve Orlando is doing a fantastic job in changing this. I never considered her one of my go-to characters, but now she's the first book I read when it comes out. Going forward I think her part is going to be a lot more important than people expect. Those showing up to learn more about Rebirth will leave disappointed, but those who have been reading will already know the drill.  This issue is nice and that's the best I can say about it, but after 8 issues, nice just isn't cutting it.  I want more and I am growing impatient waiting for it. Overall, we like this series for continually owning its lane, but even so this is not the best from Supergirl. What you can look forward to though is Babs' introduction to National City, finally landing on the scene after watching from a distance as we survived this latest issue. Read Full Review

Not the best issue to date, which is too bad because with Superman being in this story, it definitely could have been fantasticif the execution was better. The bright side is that the person that was watching Kara in this issue could make for a very interesting story in the next issue. Read Full Review

the art was OK, which is a huge step up if you ask me. and the story was fun. I really enjoyed it. I think they did a better job in this book of describing the while thing with Myx and Superman Reborn than they did in the actual books that had the event. and after reading the BG annual, I really want to see more Batgirl/Supergirl team-ups.

This is a filler issue, though not a bad issue, not a lot really happens. You do get insights into the aftermath of superman reborn in this issue, but the plot in this issue seemed to be floating until the last several pages of the book, wherein it sets up a new story arc. other than that this is pretty underwhelming. plus points for the kent family cameo.

I liked the art but the villain and story was pretty throw away. I like the look of Clark but thats about it. Again Supergirl looks cool and is a well written character but the story itself is such a snore. It feels like a non stop to be continued of filler.

Haven't read an issue since the first one but picked this up for the Emerald Empress/Saturn Girl stuff - unfortunately that's a non-starter relegated to just a few pages. Instead we get a Superman Reborn recap that conflicts with this week's far better Action Comics (how much Superman remembers of his past life is radically different here than there). I've now read a number of Steve Orlando comics and none of them have really grabbed me. The best was Midnighter, but even that wasn't my favorite. There's something about his style that doesn't click for me.
