Red Lanterns #36

This issue of the GODHEAD story line might be the most enjoyable issue I've read so far.  I just love the interaction between Guy Gardner and Simon Baz and while I was a big fan of B'dg and Simon teamed up, I think that I just found my new favorite buddy cop team.  Great story, great art and great character moments make this issue something that you'll not want to miss and actually make you a little pissed off that Red Lanterns only comes once a month.  Check it out. Red Lanterns #36 continues the theme prevalent in the second act of GodHead by making the encounter with the New Gods have some personal resonance for the Lantern cast.  Charles Soule and James Calafiore provide an entertaining issue which serves to move Guy Gardner and Simon Baz to New Genesis, perhaps for an eventual reunion with Kyle Rayner and Carol Ferris, and to further establish the paradigm of this new iteration of the New Gods.  Four out of five lanterns. If you're looking for a tie-in adventure that won't ruin the series for you, then I highly suggest giving Red Lanterns a read. Sure Red Lanterns #36 is had a few flaws and interrupted the main story, but I think that works well. It ties into the main story without having to bring the series down for readers who don't care about the rest of the Green Lantern titles. Read Full Review

In the grand scheme of "Godhead", this issue only furthers the plot a little. Yet, when it comes to character development, this issue shines. Guy Gardner is pissed off, out for revenge and the New Gods are the closest target. This makes for an interesting issue and one that allows a closer relationship with the characters. This issue of Red Lanterns while still felt like a tie in comic rather than the next chapter of Godhead, it was more enjoyable. Some great character moments between Guy and Simon and good art leads to a solid chapter. Read Full Review

What a difference an issue makes. Last month, I buried this book, since there was too much backstory not explained for people who only read for the crossovers, and it felt like a rinse and repeat of what we had been reading. This issue, however, is nothing like either of those. Charles Solue is able to explain, in a few pages, the main points of everything that happened since Guy Gardner went to join the Red Lanterns. After that, the mission is on to get to New Genesis. This issue works on every level, and really showed me why people think Soule is one of the best writers today. And then there's the art. J. Calafiore's artwork is fantastic, with great figure and facial work, detailed backgrounds, and excellent story telling. Every panel cle arly flows into the next, so the action is easy to follow. I'm really excited for the next chapter(s) (two coming next week) of Godhead. This book, surprisingly, comes highly recommended. more

There's some great character development and interaction here. Charles Soule is making the best of this God Head tie-in fiasco but the plot still feels incredibly forced in order to keep it a tie-in. At least we see B'dg again, but that felt forced too. I thought he was supposed to be partnered with Simon Baz this whole time, he certainly hasn't been with the Corps in space, where has he been? Maybe we need a B'dg tie-in for God Head. Joking of course, that would be awful.

well, it was beautiful to see Guy's development, almost another character but it was kind of frustrating
