Red Lanterns #31

Besides have a few pictures that's pretty much nightmare fuel, this was a good issue of Red Lanterns. If you've been reading both Red Lanterns and Supergirl, then you'll enjoy how things are going in this comic. There is a lot of action and excitement that it makes you want to read more. I have to applaud Charles Soule for giving us this Kara, dealing with her loss initially through rage but growing too, maybe moving away from it. And Bleez, the Judge, even Guy - all those characters feel well-rounded and real. Add to that some very compelling art by Vitti (he really draws a fantastic Supergirl) and you have a winning issue. Bloodnado.  That's all you have to know about this issue to want to read it.  I'm really digging this new Red Lantern "The Judge", and she's definitely going to tip the scales with whomever she decides to fight for in the upcoming Atrocitus/Guy Gardner War, which I can't wait to see.  What else do you need to know about this issue?  Vitti draws the hell out of Red Lanterns, Soule is still writing, and BLOODNADO!  Go check it out. And it's also fun to see more interaction between Guy and Atrocitus' Lantern factions in this issue. Obviously their inevitable showdown is a key moment Soule is building to, but even in the lead-up to that material there's some great banter and tension to be had. Soule paints Guy as a man close to the end of his rope in this issue and desperate to maintain a grip on the only family he has left in the universe. And there's the key - family. That word could never have been used to describe this violent group of rage-mongers before, but they've grown nicely under Soule's capable hand. Read Full Review

In the end neither side gets to claim The Judge as their prize and she is left on Primeen to pass judgement on herself and decide her own fate while Atrocitus has promised to kill Rankorr, setting us up for next month's issue and perhaps the moment when Atrocitus and Guy Gardner will turn their war of words into a full on battle for the future of the Red Lanterns.  Red Lanterns #31 gets four out of five lanterns for an issue that is filled with a great deal of action yet still provides some great characterization. Guy Gardner and his squad don't really get the face-off against Atrocitus that we were hoping for, but Charles Soule and Alessandro Vitti are doing an excellent job expanding the Red Lantern mythology. Read Full Review

Yet another well written book by Charles Soule who clearly has a grasp on what makes a book a great read. Despite not having any real interest in this book after reading the first few issues of the series I decided to give it another shot thanks to some beautiful covers and the fact that everything I've read from Soule has been thoroughly enjoyable. Not everyone has the skill to bring depth to each of the characters in a team book (especially ones I didn't previously care about) while still crafting a good story but he strikes that balance while keeping up great dialogue that doesn't read like a monologue. I don't know what it would take for DC to lock him up exclusively but they should try to make it happen. He clearly loves what he's d oing and I would love to see his take on some of the DC properties that were mishandled , fumbled or just straight up abandoned since the New 52 relaunch. His current workload consists of 5 monthly books from the big two and doesn't allow for it. more

A solid issue, but not a lot happens - mostly arguing. I do like this new red lantern called "the judge."
