Poison Ivy #11

Anti-heroes are very difficult creatures to bring to the page in a way that shows their true complexity. Poison Ivy works within the mold of an anti-hero story with the kind of depth that is rarely found in more straightforward heroic comics. It's easy for many titles to stick with what has worked and sort of follow the same paths as long as they can, but ‘Poison Ivy' #11 shows how much this creative team loves the character and world as they continue to expand it and go deeper. A truly gorgeous, powerful, emotional series that is truly a defining one for the title character. POISON IVY #11 recaptures the energy from the series first six issues. This isnt a criticism of recent issues. But Ivy using these other women to help her agenda, gaining a new ability, and facing consequences to her actions is a reminder of the complexity that Wilson introduced in the series first arc and that hasnt been quite as prevalent since. This was supposed to be the penultimate issue of the series in the (second) original plan, so the end of the issue nicely sets Ivy up for what would have been the last stage of her journey, but it also sort of feels like Ivy learning the same lesson again. The only real problem with this series is that it has few characters who really connect with the reader outside Ivy herself, so I'm hoping when it begins its main new arc we get to see her interact more with Harley in particular. Poison Ivy #11 is a great example of how far Poison Ivy has come as she's evolved over the series. She's capable of great violence, but her morals and empathy for humanity have changed quite a bit. Add in a threat that may be closer to Ivy's world than she might like to admit, and we have a well-written issue that builds on what came before. Read Full Review

Don't sleep on this series. Every time I pick a new issue up to read I get so excited and thoughtful. Enjoying your time reading a comic and having a thoughtful moment after it means that the creative team is doing their jobs amazingly. This is a series I will be thinking about for a very long time to come. Read Full Review

G. Willow Wilson has seemingly made her Ivy series bounce back. I just hope she will be able to keep this ongoing series interesting. I want to continue to get good insight on Ivy's character and her supporting cast in the future. Score: 7/10 Read Full Review

Not as good as the previous one. More of a "Let's talk about Gwyneth Paltrow and Ivy's ethics" less action. Still both Wilson and Takara deliver good writing and art.

Another pretty good issue here. This continues the retreat plot that began last issue and the writing continues to maintain my interest. I particularly enjoyed the development Ivy has in during her confrontation with the truckers towards the end of the issue.

This issue takes a strange story of Karma and greed with a cult like mixture and sort of achieves absolutely and utterly less than nothing. Janet is becoming a really bad distraction that seems to pull the story completely of the rails. The weakest story so far an I'm starting to tire a little of the lack of a real plot line.
