Nightwing #140

This team has made Nightwing a character that is very easy for the reader to relate to. It remains to be seen where the title is going, and if it can develop into some thing more than a poor man's Batman, but this is a solid first issue, and recommended. Regarding the 'new era', it sure feels a lot like the old one, except slightly better written. We get obligatory <span style="font-weight: bold;">Batman</span>, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Robin </span>and <span style="font-weight: bold;">Alfred </span>cameos, the random ninja fight and even a <span style="font-weight: bold;">Talia </span>appearance. There are more than a few times that Tomasi is overly verbose and I feel like I'm reading a page of dialogue boxes. In the end, it's a good, solid opening, but has a lot of room for improvement. Besides this handful of missteps, I will say that Tomasi first and foremost seems to have a grip on Dick's voice and the family dynamic between him, Batman and Tim. The opening sequence in particular, which shows Dick skydiving from an extreme altitude, went a long way towards reestablishing Dick's daredevil side in an inventive and entertaining way. That said, Tomasi has a few things to iron out before I can outright praise his work on this title. Read Full Review
